Westminster is pleased to present a day of FREE artistic programs open to the community. The events include a panel discussion on transitioning to art as a career, artistic workshops and an alumni art exhibit/reception. The panel discussion which will be held inside the Jewett Center for the Performing Arts will focus on transitioning into art as a career and will be conducted by local gallery owners, museum curators and professional Westminster alumni artists. For the workshops, it will include topics for the emerging professional artist such as canvas stretching, technique demonstrations, creating artist statements and compiling portfolios. The Alumni Art Exhibit where reception begins at 5 p.m. inside the Kim T. Adamson Alumni House presents Utah native and Westminster alumnus Layne Richard Meacham (Class of '74) features his "New Works" through April 2010 inside the Alumni House. Meacham is an abstract painter who uses mixed media, oil and acrylics to paint his large-scale canvases. In 2002, he was elected one of the "Most Honored Artists of Utah." His work is part of the permanent collections of the Marcia and John Price Museum of Fine Art, University of Utah; the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum, Utah State University; and the Springville (UT) Museum of Art.
