Vicki Ramirez, Professor, WSU Department of English, presents a program of readings and songs from her first book of poetry, Love Among the Yearlings. A reception with light refreshments will follow the performance at Universe City. Love Among the Yearlings is the title of her soon-to-be release first book of poetry. The book contains works written throughout her life and addresses issues through life's many stages. Ramirez say, "Although the reading and book has a clear love connection, the content also overlaps with women's issues, such as sexuality and identity, not only in this country, but in others." Some of the original songs she will be performing are poems from the book set to music. She says, "It's pretty interesting to see what happens when a poem is made a lyric!" Ramirez teaches the novel, contemporary world literature, and early American literature. In the Creative Writing Program Ramirez teaches classes in novel writing and song writing. As a guitar-playing, song-writing member of Ogden's Free Academy for Creative Expression (F.A.C.E), she routinely performs her own works. She has also appeared at Universe City and WSU in a music and reading program with Alicia Giralt, Professor of Spanish, WSU Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures.
