    Do your kids love wild animals? How about long summer days in the great outdoors, exploring open spaces and learning some science just for fun? This year the Ogden Nature Center is offering week-long day camps (with one night under the stars), several single day adventures, and a family campout for all ages. We have a variety of nature camps designed for ages 2-13 with openings for teenage camp assistants. Read more to learn about the exciting new mix of camps planned for summer, 2010!

     

    WEEK-LONG SUMMER NATURE CAMPS:

     

    Creepy Crawly Critters Camp

    Ages 7-9

    July 12-16

    8:30 am to 3:30 pm Mon. - Wed.

    (after hours care available until 5 pm)

    Thursday, July 15 is an overnight campout beginning at 6 pm and ending Friday morning at 8 am.

    $150 members, includes t-shirt

    $185 non-members, includes t-shirt

    Would you like an up-close and personal encounter with the creepy crawly critters that are moving around the Nature Center? Join us for a week-long adventure discovering and investigating the flying, crawling, and slithering creatures that call Ogden Nature Center home. Dig through pond muck and search fields high and low for snakes, lizards, insects and more. Play games and enjoy activities that help us understand and appreciate the creepy crawly critters all around us.

     

    Wild Things Camp

    Ages 7-9

    June 21-25

    8:30 am to 3:30 pm Mon. - Wed. (after hours care available until 5 pm)

    Thursday, June 24 is an overnight campout beginning at 6 pm and ending Friday morning at 8 am.

    $150 members, includes t-shirt

    From forests to fields, the Ogden Nature Center is teeming with life. Journey through the ecosystems that make up this 152-acre nature preserve and take a peak at their inhabitants. Observe pond life under microscopes, catch insects in the field, travel off the beaten path in search of native species and secret spots. You’ll also have the chance to meet some of our resident birds and reptiles up close. Explore and learn in a week-long camp designed to help you understand the importance of habitat.

     

    Stories From Utah’s Past Camp

    Ages 9-12

    July 26-30

    Come to the Ogden Nature Center this summer for a week-long version of our most popular school program “Living Close to the Land.” Spend the week learning about Utah’s first people and explore ways in which they depended on each other and nature as they sought food, built shelters, created tools and celebrated their lives. Play games, sleep in a tipi and design your own flute as you re-discover Utah’s rich and inspiring history.

     

    Nature Runs Wild Camp

    Ages 10-12

    August 9-13

    8:30 am to 3:30 pm Mon. - Wed.

    Thursday, August 12 is an overnight campout beginning at 6 pm and ending Friday morning at 8 am

    Take an ed-venture exploring the extreme power of nature and what the present can learn from the past. Look at the geological forces that helped create our local surroundings and recognize the potentially destructive power of these same forces in the forms of animals, earthquakes, floods, fires, tornadoes, disease, pollution and mutation. Learn safety and facts while debunking myths about the furry, slithering and flying friends in the great outdoors. Determine if there is such a thing as preparedness and learn how nature adapts and changes as nature runs wild.

     

    X-treme Eco-Expedition Camp

    Ages 11-13

    June 14-18

    8:30 am to 3:30 pm Mon. - Wed. (after hours care available until 5 pm)

    Thursday, June 17 is an overnight program beginning at 6 pm and ending Friday

    morning at 8 am

    $150 members - includes camp t-shirt

    $185 non-members – includes camp t-shirt

    Do you think you know what it takes to survive in the wild? Challenge yourself in the ultimate nature adventure. Learn how to read nature and prepare yourself for survival using basic first aid, map reading, fire starting and shelter building skills. Conquer the compass and GPS, then put your skills to the test in an all-out end of camp treasure hunt. Who will win in this wild adventure?

     

    SINGLE DAYADVENTURES:

     

    Mud Puppies

    Ages 2-3

    (guardians must accompany)

    Choose a date: Tuesday, July 6 or Wednesday, July 21

    9 am – 11 am

    $10 parent/child pair -members

    $12 parent/child pair -non-members

    $5 for a camp t-shirt with registration

    Get your hands dirty with some good old-fashion mud fun. Find out why soil is so important as we dig holes, find worms, make animal tracks and hear stories about animals in burrows. Dress for the mess!

     

    Nature’s Palette

    Ages 2-3

    (guardians must accompany)

    Choose a date: Thursday, July 8 or Wednesday, August 4

    9 am – 11 am

    $10 parent/child pair -members

    $12 parent/child pair -non-members

    $5 for a camp t-shirt with registration

    Dress in your not-so-best and join the Ogden Nature Center staff in a messy art exploration day. Play with paint, dirt, leaves, sticks and more as you use nature’s palette to create works of art.

     

    Fun For Fledglings

    Ages 4-6

    June 28-July 2

    Pick one day or come for the whole week.

    $15/day or $65/week – members

    $18/day or $80/week – non-members

    T-shirt included with week-long registration fee. T-shirts will cost an additional $5 for single day participants.

    From snake scales to fox tails, campers will learn all about the animals and insects that call the Ogden Nature Center home. Campers are sure to have a blast learning and visiting with the scaly, slippery and feathery friends that live at the Ogden Nature Center.

     

    Nature’s Invaders

    Ages 7-9

    Friday, August 6

    8:30 am to 3:30 pm

    $30 non-members

    $5 for a camp t-shirt with registration

    Are there aliens at the Ogden Nature Center? Become a nature preserve species expert as you learn to identify what does and doesn’t belong. Travel off the beaten path in search of all sorts of plants and animals that call the Nature Center home. Play games and participate in activities that help us understand why nature needs balance.

     

    Ponds, Puddles & Pools

    Ages 10-12

    Choose a date: Wednesday, July 7 or Thursday, July 22

    8:30 am to 3:30 pm

    (after hours care available until 5 pm)

    $25 members

    $30 non-members

    $5 for a camp t-shirt with registration

    Check out the 11 human-made ponds at the Ogden Nature Center and see how a small body of water can be a big pocket of life. Utilize hands-on science as you investigate invertebrates, net nymphs, check water quality and observe plant life. Discover all of the incredible activity happening in ponds, puddles and pools.

     

    Eco-Art

    Let nature be your nurturer and muse as you create art in an outdoor setting with a natural theme. Be inspired by your environment. Enjoy and replicate the natural world through drawing, painting, sculpture and installations. Each camp will have activities that are age appropriate.

    Ages 4-6

    OVER NIGHT FAMILY CAMP: Songs, Skits, Stars, and S’mores

     

    Friday, August 27 - Saturday, August 28

    All ages welcome!

    6 pm Friday to 9 am Saturday

    $45 /family of 4 –members

    $50/family of 4 –non-members

    $ 5 each additional family member

    Full payment is required at registration.

    Camp under the stars with your family at the Ogden Nature Center’s Dumke Picnic Grove. Take a guided hike through the Center and learn about the nocturnal creatures that inhabit the preserve at night. Songs, skits and s’mores will cap off the evening before you slumber under the stars. We will facilitate entertainment, drinks, s’mores and breakfast. Bring your own tent, sleeping bags, mess kit and a picnic dinner. Registration is required -- space is limited to eight families.
