The Weber State University Department of Performing Arts presents the WSU String Project Spring Concert, Monday, April 19, at 6:30 in the Allred Theater, Val. A. Browning Center for the Performing Arts. There is no admission charge for the concert but donations will gratefully be accepted. The public is cordially invited and children 8 and over are welcome.

The String Project students range from third grade through high school. The students are divided into groups according to year and then ability level. Master Teacher Elise Krebs oversees the String Project. Working with her are nine WSU String Music Education students, Alan Watt, Amanda Kippen, Gabrielle Cox, Christina Hight, Charles Thompson, Amy Elmer, Crystal Hardman, Samuel Runolfson and Nicole Sheridan.

The String Project is supported by grants from the Weber County Recreation, Arts, Museums and Parks (RAMP), the WSU College of Arts and Humanities and Ogden City Arts, as well as donations by friends of the program. The project is dependent on donations to keep its tuition costs low.

Weber State University is one of 30 colleges and universities around the United States that serve as String Project sites. The String Project sites are members of the National String Project Consortium (NSPC), which is an organization dedicated to increasing the number of children in the country who have access to stringed instrument study by offering low cost classes for children from grades 3 through 12. A second goal of the NSPC is to help alleviate the critical shortage of qualified string teachers by offering String Music Education students at WSU the opportunity to intern as teachers at both sites. To assure that the student teachers learn correct teaching methods they are supervised and mentored by both the Master Teacher and the Project Director.
