Rich New Yorker Bobby Child doesn't want to be a banker or marry the woman his mother has chosen for him. He wants to be in theatre. He is in luck when he is asked to foreclose on The Gaiety Theater in Deadrock, Nevada. Once there, he decides to "put on a show" to save the theatre and he falls in love. Theatre and love have their ups and downs but everyone lives happily ever after in the end. This "New Gershwin Musical Comedy" won the 1992 Tony Award for Best Musical.
