Beethoven's shadow has loomed large over countless composers, including those writing today. Brahms famously said "You have no idea how it feels to hear behind you the footsteps of a giant like Beethoven." Yet Brahms created music of great originality and depth, including his Piano Quartet in G minor with its unforgettable Gypsy style final movement. Pierre Jalbert's Trio conveys Beethoven's spirit through tightly constructed, muscular writing, while Beethoven's Trio is itself a testament of virtuosity, complete with a lightning fast final movement.
