Botanica transforms the theatre into a breathtaking fantasyland, delighting the audience with Momix's special brand of stage magic. Using spellbinding choreography, large-scale puppets and larger-than-life props designed by Michael Curry (The Lion King), Botanica evokes a vivid landscape of childlike wonder brought to life by a cast of dancer-illusionists.

      I attended the Momix Botanica show Saturday night at Kingsbury Hall. The short of it is that I should have stayed at home and organized my sock drawer. That would have been more interesting, and certainly would not have cost $90 to do. The longer version is this: Botanica was a disjointed, barely intelligible, pretentious snoozefest. The dancing was mostly mediocre, although there was one performance that held my attention. One. Only one. The seasons theme were scarcely recognizable amid all the nonsensical storytelling. Admittedly, I can only give my opinion about the first half of the show, as I left at intermission, as did a number of patrons. I can only imagine that they, too, figured they could stare at paint drying, grass growing, or take-your-pick-at-another-cliche for free and in more comfort than Kingbury Hall offers. Momix Botanica is full of its own poetic self worth and whimsy, but it did not deliver. Collapse
