After losing her parents to a cholera epidemic in India, young Mary Lennox is sent to Misselthwaite Manor in England to stay with her uncle Archibald. He has never recovered from the death of his wife and has most of the mansion locked up. He has even locked up his wife's beloved garden and his sickly son, Colin, to help obliterate her memory. Mary unlocks the hidden garden and brings it to life as she discovers what it means to live, herself. Doing this also brings life to her uncle and to Colin.
