    Important Note: The Ogden Nature Center will be closed on July 24 and there will be no Free Summer Saturday (RAMP) activities on July 24.


    August 2010 Events and Activities at the Ogden Nature Center

    Wednesday, August 4 from 9-11 am
    Nature’s Palette Day Camp for ages 2-3
    $10 parent/child pair – members
    $12 parent/child pair – non-members
    Dress in your not-so-best and join the Ogden Nature Center staff in a messy art exploration day. Play with paint, dirt, leaves, sticks and more as you use nature’s palette to create works of art. Pre-registration is required. Please call 801-621-7595.

    Wednesday, August 4 at 3:30 pm
    Wild Wednesdays – Who’s a Buteo?
    Free for ONC members or $2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
    Ages: all
    Meet Sampson the Red-tailed Hawk while discovering what makes a buteo a buteo. Then take a short hike with a naturalist to look for signs of buteos at the Ogden Nature Center. Please check-in in the Visitor Center.

    Friday, August 6 from 8:30 am-3:30 pm
    Nature’s Invaders Day Camp for ages 7-9
    $25 – members
    $30 – non-members
    Are there aliens at the Ogden Nature Center? Become a nature preserve species expert as you learn to identify what does and doesn’t belong. Travel off the beaten path in search of all sorts of plants and animals that call the Ogden Nature Center home. Play games and participate in activities that help us understand why nature needs balance. Pre-registration is required. Please call 801-621-7595.

    Saturday, August 7 – FREE Summer Saturday
    Free admission and activities all day thanks to Weber County RAMP funds
    Open 9 am – 4 pm
    10-10:45 am: Meet Pueo: The Little Rebel Owl. Come meet our unique Short-eared Owl. Learn why Short-eared Owls are considered the rule breakers of the owl world.
    1 pm: Make a bug box to take home

    Wednesday, August 11 at 3:30 pm
    Wild Wednesday’s – Accipiters—Aces of the Forest
    Free for ONC members or $2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
    Ages: all
    Sharpies! Coops! Goshawks! Utah is home to these three types of accipiters, also known as the true hawks. Meet the Nature Center’s own Goshawk and discover how accipiters survive in the forest. Please check-in in the Visitor Center.

    Thursday, August 12 at 7 pm
    The Waifs -- Outdoor Summer Concert
    Cost: $21 adults / $10 children (12 and under)
    Ages: all
    The Waifs are Western Australia’s folk-pop phenomenon. Their 2003 album Up All Night reached double platinum in Australia. Having spent years touring Australia in a camper van, their music was crafted around campfires and on beaches. The Waifs have toured with Bob Dylan in both Australia and the United States. Box dinners from Jeremiah’s Restaurant may be pre-ordered online for this concert. Please visit www.ogdennaturecenter.org for tickets and information or call 801-621-7595.

    Open 9 am – 4 pm
    10-10:45 am: Owls of Utah: Meet three of Utah’s nine native owls and learn about how they survive in nature.
    1 pm: Make a nature stamp placemat to take home

    Wednesday, August 18 at 3:30 pm
    Wild Wednesday’s – Fantastic Falcons
    Free for ONC members or $2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
    Ages: all
    What can dive at over 200 miles per hour? What has a beak that acts like a can opener? Falcons! Spend time observing a live falcon while learning about these fast and fascinating birds. Please check-in in the Visitor Center.

    Thursday, August 19 at 5:30 pm
    Community Class: Fresh from the Garden -- Herbed Vinegars and Oils
    Cost: $7 members / $9 nonmembers
    Ages: 8 and up
    Teacher/naturalist Cheyenne Herland will help you combine fresh herbs from the Ogden Nature Center garden with oils and vinegars to create fabulous flavor sensations. These special recipes can be used to dress up your favorite summer salads or infuse your recipes with a new secret ingredient. Bring two of your own small glass bottles. Please call 801-621-7595 to reserve your spot by Monday, August 16.

    Saturday, August 21 FREE Summer Saturday
    Free admission and activities all day thanks to Weber County RAMP funds
    Open 9 am – 4 pm
    10-10:45 am: Clash of the Titans: We’ll compare North America’s two native eagles, the Golden Eagle and the Bald Eagle.
    1 pm: Make corn husk flowers to take home

    Wild Wednesday’s – Owl Tales
    Free for ONC members or $2 children / $3 seniors / $4 adults
    Ages: all
    Are owls really wise? Get the answer to that question and many others as we meet three different owls and decode the mysteries that surround these amazing birds. Please check-in in the Visitor Center.

    General Information: To register for classes, camps and workshops, please call 801-621-7595. Some class sizes are limited to ensure a quality experience for participants and instructors. Call in your reservation and pay with VISA or MasterCard, or come in person to pay with cash or check. We cannot accept reservations without payment. We reserve the right to change instructors or cancel classes due to circumstances beyond our control, including illness, inclement weather or low attendance.
