    A BRIEF HISTORY OF OKTOBERFEST
The famed Oktoberfest began with a Royal Bavarian Wedding in 1810. To celebrate his autumn marriage, King Ludwig the first called for a state Fair in Munich. The festival was dedicated to the fall harvest, and of course beer-the region’s most famous product.

Tradesmen and merchants came from throughout Southern Germany to join in the merrymaking. They examined the crops, sang, danced, and sampled the first beer of the season.

The celebration was such a success that Ludwig issued a royal decree making every October in Munich a festival time. Oktoberfest has been held annually ever since and has grown into the largest of all German beer festivals.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF SNOWBIRD’S OKTOBERFEST
Thirty eight years ago, inspired by the towering mountains that reminded them of their homeland, two men costumed in leather lederhosen, came to Snowbird Ski and Summer Resort to play their accordions and sing in their native German tongue. Over the years, Oktoberfest has become the premier celebration of German food, music, dance and fun.

Attracting over 50,000 visitors over the seventeen-day celebration, Oktoberfest has grown to become one of the largest festivals in the state of Utah. Oktoberfest includes Oktoberfest Halle featuring the tastes of Bavaria with entertainment from local and national German bands and yodelers.

Please remember when you come up to enjoy all of our wonderful concerts and festivals, leave ALL of your pets at home! The snow and stream water from this canyon is a primary source of drinking water for visitors and residents here at Snowbird and in the Salt Lake Valley. For having pets in the canyon, you could be looking at up to a $1000 fine…even for the really little ones! Thank you for helping us “keep it pure”.
