The discontented inhabitants of a rural French village are suddenly rescued from their great bread famine by Aimable the new Baker, his beautiful young wife and his divine creations. But when his wife runs away he loses all desire to bake and the town falls back into disarray. His desires and his talent are rekindled when his wife returns and they are reconciled helping the town to find its own sense of Romance again once lost.
