Jeanne Crain is Pinky, a light-skinned African American nurse who finds that she can pass as white. Afraid her heritage will be discovered by her white fianc?e, she returns to Mississippi where she is made heiress to a plantation. The sensational court trial that results in the movie mirrors the reception of this controversial film, which was banned in the South.
