Challenging. Provocative. Forbidden. Peter Shaffer's Equus is well-known for its hard-hitting drama and controversial examination of religion and sexuality. The play explores the case of Alan Strang, a boy ritually obsessed with horses, and his interaction with his psychiatrist, Martin Dysart, who is struggling with his own purpose and meaning. Seventeen-year-old Strang begins seeing Dysart after he blinds a number of horses, causing the psychiatrist to doubt whether or not he is actually helping his patients.
