    VAI Spring Semester Classes!<br /> Registration has begun for 2011 Spring Semester.  Classes run for 10 weeks • April 18th-June 23rd• tuition is $190 ($180 Elem.) Classes are held in two locations: Sugar House @ Garfield School • 1838 S. 1500 E.  Sandy @ Eastmont Middle School • 10100 S. 1300 E. (select classes) Elementary Classes • 4:30-6pm in Sugar House & 4:00-5:30pm in Sandy Supplies are included in the tuition fee for elementary students. Mondays • Intro to Drawing (taught Tuesdays at Eastmont) Suggested for first time students of VAI. Teaches the basic concepts and techniques of making art through drawing Tuesdays • Colored Pencil Drawing. Through this course students will learn how to develop drawings using colored pencils, while exploring line, color, shading, value, and more. Wednesdays • Sketchbook Students will explore a variety of mediums, techniques, and subject matter while developing their creative ideas in their own sketchbook. Thursdays • Found Object Sculpture
    This class will center on sculpture techniques including form, volume, material, texture, shape, and construction methods.

    Jr.. High & High School • 4:30-6:30pm in Sugar House & 4:00-6:00pm in Sandy Students provide their own supplies for  Jr.. High & high school classes (instructors will provide a list of suggested supplies).  Monday • Collage (Garfield only)

    First used in Cubist paintings, artists have utilized the idea of glued paper and combined imagery to create amazing works of art. Come explore this expressive medium and see where your imagination takes you. Tuesday • Altered Books. Take the basic format of the book and modify and manipulate not only the text, but the concept and structure of the book. This is an amazing transformative process that will allow you to personalize and empower the printed page through a variety of means such as sewing, painting, stamping, coloring, cutting, collaging, and re-arranging.
    Wednesday • Figurative Drawing 
    Using the draped figure as the principle subject, study the effects of light and shadow, proportion and scale, space and composition. Focus on hands, feet, faces, and clothing while capturing the gesture of life in charcoal and NuPastel. Thursday • Master Transformation. Begin an amazing journey by copying the work of a master painter, then week by week create new pieces with a different focus using the previous week’s work as a springboard for new imagery. Oil Painting/mixed media.
