Based on Ovid's myths of the ancient Greeks and Romans, Metamorphoses subtly mixes classic stories of pathos and tragedy with contemporary language and familiar characters, such as King Midas and his golden touch, and Orpheus and Eurydice in the underworld. The themes of love, the inevitability of change, and our power to adapt are timeless and explored with humor and thought, all enacted in and around a pool of water.
