THE MASTER SINGERS were first organized in 1947 under the direction of Edward Sandgren with Virginia Larson as accompanist. There were seventy five men in the original chorus, and the group toured all over the state of Utah. This all-male chorus remained an active musical group in Southern Utah throughout the 1950s and 1960s and sang briefly in the early 1970s. In 1997, 20 of the original members came together to perform at the celebration of the Centennial of Southern Utah University and the Sesquicentennial of the Pioneer Trek. The new organization of the group would also be a celebration of the 50th anniversary of its original organization. After the 1997 performances, there was sufficient interest to recruit new members and renew the organization, with members from all over the Southern Utah area.
