Add Review/CommentA selection of contemporary quilts by master and beginning quilters, this exhibition is sponsored by the Utah Valley Quilter's Guild. An unforgettable display of color, pattern and skill is showcased through the creative medium of quilting in this exhibition. Submissions by Utah quilters are judged by a panel of talented artists and quilters based on quality in workmanship, design, color, originality, and general appeal. This popular show demonstrates the talents of some of Utah's finest fiber artists and allows visitors the chance to experience the aesthetic beauty of the craft. The quilt show is 'a wonderful way of showing another art form,' said Francine, who has been involved with the show for five years. 'It lets people know that quilts are not just things you sleep under, but things of beauty.' The quilt show is hosted by the Springville Museum of Art, partnered with the Utah Valley Quilt Guild, and is one of many juried shows exhibited annually at the Museum. Quality in workmanship, design, color, originality and general appeal are the principle criteria applied by the selection committee for admission into the show. After the panel of jurors qualifies the quilts, they will be displayed, and judged for ribbons/awards by judges Bonnie Bryce and Penny Stephenson. Awards cover many different categories including Best in Show and Directors Award. Museum staff is continually impressed by the diversity of artists represented, and the variety of talents displayed in the show. 'Every year is different' said Francine. On average the jurors choose from about 100 quilts a year, all of them submitted by quilters with a Utah connection. The show represents artists of all ages and backgrounds, yet each quilt speaks to its maker's dedication to the art of quilt-making. 'It couldn't come at better time of year,' said Scott Sheltra, the Museum's current Stewart Fellow. 'With the Spring Salon, we have a great exhibition of the abilities of Utah artists working within the traditional fine arts. Then, with the Quilt Show, we see equally talented people displaying different, but equally impressive, crafts.' Springville Museum of Art presents two days of 'Trunk Shows' from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Friday, August 8th and Saturday, August 9th. Meet the talent behind the art! Artists will be on-site showcasing their quilts and talking with visitors. View the work of Utah's finest quilters in conjunction with the 35th Annual Quilt Show.
