Add Review/CommentMendelssohns 'Elijah' will be performed by the Salt Lake Choral Artists under the direction of Dr. Brady Allred at Libby Gardner Hall on the University of Utah campus. The beautiful and dramatic oratorio will be sung in English (Robert Shaw edition) and accompanied by the Salt Lake Symphony. Soloists include Darrell Babidge in the title role with supporting soloists Kiersten Gunlogson and George Dyer. In an 1838 letter, Mendelssohn wrote, 'I imagined Elijah as a real prophet through and through, of the kind we could really do with today.' After the oratorio's premiere in 1846 it was said in the newspapers: 'Never was there a more complete triumph; never a more thorough and speedy recognition of a great work of art.' While it is an obvious nod to the works of Handel and Bach, Elijah is an astounding work in its own right with such choruses as He, Watching Over Israel, Lift Thine Eyes, and Behold, God the Lord. Featuring Darrell Babidge in the title role with supporting soloists Kiersten Gunlogson and George Dyer, you'll be carried away to a glorious world of sound.
