Enigmas is a collaboration between artists Suzanne Kanatsiz and Jake Gilson. The exhibition represents their personal exploration and response to the puzzles and mysteries of life. Jake Gilson looks for the mystical and mysterious in himself; visual descriptions of the ever changing known and unknown underlie his work. Large pieces on folded steel are chemically treated and worked laboriously to create layers of visual reference. Superimposed grids and dots create a framework from which to view the piece. His drawings, fields of rich hue with almost imperceptible imagery, hover in the realm of the indefinable. The diverse media employed in Suzanne Kantsiz' sculptures include organic and machined elements. Experimental and conceptual by nature, Kantsiz combines slow, primitive processes (intuitively marked materials, left raw) with sleek fabrication. Suzanne has completed many large, sculptural projects, including earthworks in Joshua Tree, California and Dallas, Texas. This body of work captures the drama of her large projects on a more intimate scale.
