Bountiful/Davis Art Center

The Bountiful/Davis Art Center began in 1974 as an experiment between the University of Utah Department of Continuing Education, the City of Bountiful and committed citizens and businesses in Davis County. After nearly three decades of bringing quality arts programs to the Wasatch Front, BDAC is more dynamic than ever! In the spirit of cooperation and partnership on which BDAC was founded, the center has become a home for all the arts and cultural groups in our community.

    Annual Statewide Competition Bountiful/Davis Art Center Annual Statewide Competition Presented by Bountiful/Davis Art Center at Bountiful/Davis Art Center January 27-March 9, 2012 This is one of the longest-running juried visual arts exhibitions in Utah highlighting the works of Utah's most creative visual artists. The competition is open to all professional artists living in Utah. Original works of art in the following media will be accepted: watercolor, oil, acrylic, mixed media, drawings, graphics, photographs, weavings/textiles and sculpture.

      This is a huge show, of 81 poems and 81 paintings. In March of 2008, 9 poets were set the task of writing 9 poems with line and length restrictions, each one inspired by or dedicated to a particular Muse, or Goddess of a particular Art. After 3 months, the poems were distributed to 9 visual artists, such that each artist had a poem for each Muse and each artist. Upon completion, the show was mounted in a large open space, with the work inspired by a particular Muse grouped in a grid of 9 poems/9 paintings. There is a mathematical precision to the show; every painting is 18” x 18” and every poem fit on a 9” x 18” panel. Each grid is sequenced so a given poet appears in the same position. There is a sacred feeling to the space, of stained glass windows, or the stations of the cross. The exhibit is worth seeing multiple times, to take in its scope.
