      See the full review at www.orchestraofsouthernutah.org “We have a powerful potential in our youth,” declared FDR’s advisor Mary McCleod Bethune more than 60 years ago. That today’s youth still radiate powerful potential was more than evident to those attending the Orchestra of Southern Utah’s Roy L. Halverson Young Artist Concert Thursday night. Megumi Gass demonstrated her superb musical skills, playing with great passion and lyrical feeling. Sarah Maxwell sang with the self-possession of a seasoned professional. Logan Butt captured the spirit of this volcanic composition, sweeping all before him in an outpouring of sheer virtuosity. Premiere of Dynamic Dinosaurs by Drs. Keith and Daniel Bradshaw as well as Jurassic Park medley completed the program. Collapse

      If you have not yet had an opportunity to hear one of the finest treasures of Southern Utah, this is the season to make it happen. The Orchestra of Southern Utah is back for their 2009-2010 season in fabulous form. Starting out the season with the annual Talent Showcase, the OSU has risen the bar and set a new standard for themselves. Featuring the talent of young artists, local performing ensembles and the OSU under the direction of Maestro Xun Sun, this truly was an unexpected treat for this long time music fan. Each year I am amazed at the caliber of musicians that crawl out of the canyons to offer their talents to the community. This truly is "America's Community Orchestra. For those who do not know of Cedar City, this is a great way to get acquainted with our little town. For those who reside here and have not yet taken part, don't miss another opportunity. And for all, please support fine arts in you local communities. Much love to all who give. Collapse
