Red Butte Garden, a part of the University of Utah, is a non-profit organization. With over 100 acres including display and natural gardens, walking paths and natural area with hiking trails, Red Butte Garden is the largest botanical and ecological center in the Intermountain West that tests, displays and interprets regional horticulture. The Garden offers something for everyone. The whole family can enjoy activities year-round including concerts, gardening classes, festivals, events, and exhibits. Hours: Monday-Sunday 10:00am-5:00pm

    Nature of Sustainable Art Show Red Butte Garden and Arboretum Nature of Sustainable Art Show Presented by Red Butte Garden and Arboretum at Red Butte Garden and Arboretum January 6-February 26, 2012 This indoor art exhibit showcases imaginative works from Utah artists as they celebrate the beauty of nature through the use of sustainable and recycled materials. Come see how these local artists have creatively transformed everyday items into unique works of art.

    03/02/12- 03/25/12	Nate Pack Art Exhibit Red Butte Garden and Arboretum Nate Pack Art Exhibit Presented by Red Butte Garden and Arboretum at Red Butte Garden and Arboretum March 2-March 25, 2012 Using familiar images from the world of sports, music, and childhood play, Nate Pack takes seemingly entertaining and juvenile images and permeates them with peculiar angles, bold use of color and a profound sense of form. His work is no child's play. While focusing on the figures, Pack crams his arrangements with stylistic charm and pushes the concept of the narrative to a new whimsical dimension.

Growing up in Utah, she was surrounded by visually stunning places, from the red rocks of Capitol Reef to the cool forests of the Wasatch and Uinta ranges.     04/27/12- 05/20/12	Gordon Eddington Copper Art Exhibit Red Butte Garden and Arboretum Gordon Eddington Copper Art Exhibit Presented by Red Butte Garden and Arboretum at Red Butte Garden and Arboretum April 27-May 20, 2012 The Process of Art on Copper: Gordon takes an image, usually from his photography, and then creates a mosaic pattern from the design. He then transfers the pattern to a piece of copper sheeting. Once this is done the copper is cut into pieces that can be fired with a torch. The type of enamel, translucent or opaque, and the color and the amount of heat determines the outcome of the firing. Once the pieces are fired, they are reassembled and mounted on a steel plate and framed.
    05/25/12- 06/17/12	Michelle Condrat Art Exhibit Red Butte Garden and Arboretum Michelle Condrat Art Exhibit Presented by Red Butte Garden and Arboretum at Red Butte Garden and Arboretum May 25-June 17, 2012 Michelle Condrat was born and raised in Salt Lake City Utah, and is an active participant in the art community. She graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor degree in Painting/Drawing and Printmaking and a minor in Art History in 2007. She has had her artwork shown in many different art shows including the Springville Museum of Art Spring Salon in 2010, the Utah and Park City Arts Festivals, and the Salt Lake City Deseret News Landscape Art Show.
    06/22/12- 07/15/12	Richard Ansley Photography Exhibit Red Butte Garden and Arboretum Richard Ansley Photography Exhibit Presented by Red Butte Garden and Arboretum at Red Butte Garden and Arboretum June 22-July 15, 2012 Being born and spending his childhood in the cloudy suburbs of Atlanta Georgia, Richard Ansley never learned to appreciate open vistas and clear blue skis like those of the Western landscape until his first of many hitchhiking trips that cut through the never-ending cornfields of the plains across the desolate Nevadan sagebrush and finally to the Western shores of California in the early 70's.
    08/17/12- 09/09/12	Hadley Anne Rampton Art Exhibit Red Butte Garden and Arboretum Hadley Anne Rampton Art Exhibit Presented by Red Butte Garden and Arboretum at Red Butte Garden and Arboretum August 17-September 9, 2012 Hadley Anne Rampton began painting outside, mainly in the mountains, due to her love of wilderness. The beauty, the peace, the energy of ever transitory life; it gave her a desire to create and express greater than any other experience she have known.
    09/14/12- 10/07/12	Colleen Reynolds Art Exhibit - Life in Bloom Red Butte Garden and Arboretum Colleen Reynolds Art Exhibit - Life in Bloom Presented by Red Butte Garden and Arboretum at Red Butte Garden and Arboretum September 14-October 7, 2012 Colleen Reynolds work celebrates the complexity of the living world, triggered by her interest in biology. She derives much of her inspiration from her husband's garden. Reynolds paints in acrylic, watercolor and oil. She creates textured and iridescent paintings where the surface shimmers, chameleon-like, in changing light. Her watercolor paintings depict rich, brilliant color applied in puddles or poured in random flows.

      I am a fan of both of these artists but could not find solid common ground between the 2 last night. A beautiful evening and very well intentioned musicians could not seem to overcome profound differences in style and delivery. Booker T oozed his good vibe and DBT wreeked of booze filled melancholy. Occasionally they hit the "intersting" mark but the show was more of a back and forth between the two worlds. Booker T remained graceful and and harmonious and DBT flaunted their wonderful out of tune badness. Booker T did not even join DBT on the final haunting encore "Angels and Fuselage"(except to come out and wave goodbye in the middle of the song). I would highly recommend seeing both these acts on their own though. Collapse

Just as James was promoting the new funk sound here in the states in the 70's, Fela was creating a popular new sound of his own dubbed Afro Beat. Funky, rhythmic dance music with a strong political message and nice jazz undertones. Please come ready to dance the night away. NO SITTING AROUND LIKE LAST TIME!!! Collapse
