Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company

Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company was founded in 1964 by Shirley Ririe and Joan Woodbury. Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company is dedicated to furthering contemporary, multi-media, dance by creating and performing original and innovative works of the highest quality modern dance, and promoting the understanding of and appreciation for the art form of dance, in the belief that dance is for everybody. Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company performs locally in Salt Lake City at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center and Capitol Theatre, as well as nationally and internationally.

      Ririe-Woodbury's annual children's and family show is the perfect antidote to a cold (and arguably boring) January. Sponsors for five student matinees of the show(at which close to 9,000 Utah kids will be seated free-of-charge)include Wells Fargo, Larry H. Miller Charities and the Henry W. and Leslie M. Eskuche Foundation. Individuals as far away as Las Vegas have also stepped up to help fund this acclaimed annual event for Utah students, half of whom are designated Title I. You can help bring this delightful show to public schools by attending one of the three public performances Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 and Saturday at 2:00. See you at the Capitol Theatre!       I've had the privilege of seeing some of the early rehearsals of "Kaleidoscope Suite" and the short,informal preview on Friday, Sept. 4 at 5:30pm will be well worth it. Plus, afterwards,you get to hear artistic director of the Nikolais/Louis Foundation for Dance Tito del Saz talk about this work which premiered in 1956. Great for kids too. Collapse

      This year's version of Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company's "The Crystal and the Sphere," is even better than last year's. The Company has added two additional dances through the auspices of the Nikolais/Louis Foundation for Dance (Artistic Dir., Tito del Saz). This black light show is a great way to introduce kids to abstract dance theater while "wowing" them at the same time. Both dailies last year loved it, as did over 9000 school kids and their teachers who saw it for free. Come to the show this year to help support these free matinees again scheduled for 2009. I brought two friends last year and they're coming again this year. And the price is right: $45 for a family of five. Collapse
