    The Road Home

    Comment on Facebook

The Road Home, formerly Travelers Aid Society, is a private, non-profit social service agency established in 1923 in Utah to assist stranded travelers, unescorted and runaway youth, and other disconnected persons. Although historically known for its booths in train stations, bus stations and airports, The Road Home positioned itself to assist a wider range of individuals requiring assistance, including homeless people. Case management by a social worker is emphasized as the critical element in providing quality, long-term resolution to challenges that the individual faces. As this agency evolved from its historical activities to its current focus on providing people who are homeless with emergency services, shelter and help obtaining and retaining housing, the feeling grew that the name "Travelers Aid Society" no longer reflected our programs and mission, and was even misleading to some who were not closely involved with our organization. Their Community Advisory Board and Board of Trustees decided to rename the agency. Key Board and staff members worked with the advertising agency Blain Olsen White Gurr , who donated their services and expertise, to conduct research, hold focus groups and develop objectives and a plan to select a new name and create supporting materials. "The Road Home, support and shelter for overcoming homelessness," conveys our message in a powerful way. It is critical to note that our agency has not changed what we do; instead we have changed our name to better reflect what we do. They are a hopeful and compassionate organization that provides basic needs as well as personalized case management to help people get back on their feet and become self-sufficient. They continue to efficiently provide these services with a commitment to have a local and lasting impact on our community.
