The Utah Pride Center holds true to the idea of a united and inclusive community in which all GLBT people and their allies are welcomed with open arms and stand up for each other?s rights. The Center dedicates itself to bringing the community together by creating common ground for real change, providing a nexus of communication between various groups, and offering events and programming that reflect our wonderfully diverse community.

      I don't know how you can say it has "Nothing to do with Utah Pride". Utah has a very large population of proudfully gay people. I don't think they call it "Gay Pride" anymore because that would... Expand

      I don't know how you can say it has "Nothing to do with Utah Pride". Utah has a very large population of proudfully gay people. I don't think they call it "Gay Pride" anymore because that would exclude those who are not gay, but still proud to be themselves. We have a diverse population in Utah. This is an opportunity for the community to reach out and show their support for people who are different and similar to themselves. Collapse

      I understand your point and I believe it is for a great cause. Since I've been in Utah I've seen what the Pride Center does. I came from a large city who doesn't do half of what the Pride Center does.... Expand

      I understand your point and I believe it is for a great cause. Since I've been in Utah I've seen what the Pride Center does. I came from a large city who doesn't do half of what the Pride Center does. The Center offers 'Free' support to gay/trans youth. I see these kids go there and eat, play games and participate in our community shaping their character in positive ways...for free! I see gay/trans men participate in coffee talk or bar bq forming lifelong friendships,counseling, financial and legal advice. All 4 free! Free confidential HIV testing. Safe-sex counseling from an experienced staff...also free. The staff works day and night to help educate in school and businesses. I wish I worked there sometimes...lol Anyway I believe thats where the money goes. If it is indeed hard for you to attend due to the cost, I will be happy to pay your way.       I personally as a member of the gay community in Utah, am ashamed that the Pride Center requires people to pay to participate in the Pride festival. There are businesses willing to list their names on your advertisements; do they not help cover the cost? Are there not more willing sponsors that can be found? I understand this is an organization that needs money from donations to run, but this money should be given when it can be given by those who want to and can give. This need for money should not be put in to the cost of tickets, a price which can exclude people in our community from being able to show their pride. Collapse
