Organization
Youth Theatre at the U
Youth Theatre at the U uses creative drama and process drama work as the foundation for its curriculum. Through their diverse programming, they strive to teach students valuable life-skills and give them a human experience through theatre. Their primary goal is not to create or train professional young actors. Rather, their primary goal is to develop the whole child using theatre as the medium to help them access emotions and explore complex issues.
Youth Theatre has a unique relationship with the University of Utah. As an entity of the Department of Theatre, the organization's staff is comprised of University faculty, staff, and students, complimented by a mix of professional guest artists from the Salt Lake community and the national young people's theatre community.
Youth Theatre at the U's productions are a product of work done in the classroom. They grow from an environment of learning and enrichment for the whole child. Young people are often involved in the entire creative process and development of productions.-

Very fun musical and strong performances from all the actors. Choreography was wonderful. Costumes were terrific (especially Captain Bree's) and the set was great. It would be better on a bigger stage. The British soldiers and the Admiral at the end come perilously close to stealing the show!! The music is catchy and we all left humming a different, favorite tune from the show. Some roles are double cast but I saw both casts and you will enjoy it whichever you see. The very blond cabin boy is outstanding. One difference between the two casts is the two Samuel Prescotts. One Samuel clearly has more theater training and confidence on stage, but the other Samuel has a super voice and better comedic timing. Both are good. You will enjoy this. Fun for everyone in the family. It lasts 1 hour and 35 minutes with no intermission. Collapse
