Davis Arts Council
The Davis Arts Council's (DAC) mission is to enrich the community through the power of the arts via creative expression, excellence, and accessibility. Celebrating their 30th anniversary in 2009, Davis Arts Council's vision is to become the leading community arts organization in Utah by 2020.
The Davis Arts Council, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, is independent of but partnered with Layton City and seeks to serve the residents of Layton City, Davis County, Weber County, and beyond! A volunteer board of trustees along with a full-time executive director, two full-time staff, and (most importantly) hundreds of volunteers ensure that DAC can continue to serve anyone believing that arts, culture, and creativity to be primary building blocks of civilization and vital to happiness.
In 1995, DAC partnered with Layton City, private donors, and business sponsors to build the intimate Edward A. Kenley Centennial Amphitheater, nestled in the heart of the stunningly beautiful Layton Commons Park. Acquiring this venue inaugurated the first of DAC's Summer Nights with the Stars season. Other programming offered by DAC includes the Free Sunday Night Concert Series, Arts in the Park, a partnership for children with Layton City, Active Stages, community theatrical productions, a visual arts gallery (forthcoming), and adult and children's educational/cultural workshops.

Moab Music Festival
The Moab Music Festival was founded in 1992 by Michael Barrett and Leslie Tomkins, professional musicians based in New York who have a love for the red rock country of southeastern Utah. According to Michael, "Creating the Festival allows us to combine two of the major passions of our lives?our love of great music beautifully performed and the tremendous beauty of the Moab area."
Since its inception, the Festival has remained true to Michael and Leslie's original dream: to marry world class performances of music with the spectacular landscape of the Utah canyonlands region and to bring musical opportunities to the Moab community, particularly to its children.
The Festival is noted for its distinctive programming, unique among Festivals. While classical chamber music remains the mainstay of the Festival, other types of music ? traditional folk music, jazz, vocal music, and the music of living composers?are also part of the repertoire.
Each season the Festival has a distinguished Composer-in-Residence whose music is highlighted in several concerts and who is present to discuss his/her work.
Over the course of the Festival's history, close to 150 professional, world-class musicians of outstanding caliber have performed. Many of the principal Festival musicians return year after year, arranging busy touring schedules around their desire to make music in the Moab landscape and to engage with the other musicians and with Festival audiences. Each year also brings new musicians, many of who become "regulars" because of the unique experience of Moab and the Festival.

The mission of the Moab Arts Council is to promote and support the arts in Southeastern Utah. This is done with the belief and understanding that arts activities, events and education provide for general community well-being while contributing to economic diversity. In the "big picture" the growth of the arts simply makes Moab a better place to be for residents and visitors alike.

Peery's Egyptian Theater
After fire ravaged the Arlington Hotel on Ogden's main boulevard, Harman W. and Louis H. Peery, sons of deceased pioneer businessman David H. Peery, set about to replace the rubble with a movie palace that would be "The Showplace of the West." Local architects were commissioned to take on the design task. They visited the newest and trendiest West Coast theatres. Swayed by the King Tut-mania of the time the duo soon had Peery's Egyptian down on blueprints.
Peery's new 1,200-seat show house was built entirely of poured, reinforced concrete. Large lettering on the back of the Egyptian proclaimed it to be, "Ogden's Only Fireproof Theatre? A Safe Place for the Kiddies." After Twentieth Century-Fox was incorporated in 1935, Peery's two show houses? the Egyptian and the Ogden?were leased by Fox Inter-Mountain Theatres. On October 28, the first CinemaScope motion picture was introduced. The new format came with a revolutionary four-channel stereophonic sound system and wide-screen. Circumstances changed dramatically in the early 1980s. Operated by a small, local chain by then, and reduced to a second-run dollar movie venue, the Egyptian was ordered closed by county authorities late in 1984 for health code violations.
Through a complex partnership that included Weber County, Ogden City, Weber State University, Egyptian Theatre Foundation, and Ogden and Weber Chamber of Commerce, not only was the Egyptian saved and restored, but the adjoining David Eccles Conference Center was constructed, and a rebuilt department store became new Weber County government offices. A superbly restored Peery's Egyptian reopened January 17, 1997 as a performing arts/movie theatre. After an absence of decades, a magnificent Wurlitzer theatre pipe organ once again fills the Egyptian with music, making its debut in July of 2004.

Park City Performing Arts Foundation
Their story is one of humble beginnings, grand aspirations, luck, learning and incredible community support. In the mid-1990s, a small group of savvy locals came up with a scheme to partner with Park City School District in building a state-of-the-art theater. In 1998, after tremendous fundraising efforts, the theater opened its doors as The George S. and Dolores Dor? Eccles Center for the Performing Arts. Park City Performing Arts Foundation has filled the center with dance, music, theater, comedy, children's productions and authors every year since then. In recent years, they have also plunged into outdoor concerts, presenting "Big Stars, Bright Nights" (featuring everyone from Etta James to Willie Nelson) at beautiful Deer Valley Resort.
In the meantime, they've dabbled in local concerts (serving as "Concerts in the Park" presenters from 2001-2006); hosted the Cultural Olympiad (featuring Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre and Pilobolus); orchestrated "Moose on the Loose" (an ambitious arts project and fundraiser); partnered with Sundance Institute on several documentary series and CineMuse on high-definition film. They're proud of all these accomplishments, but they revere their Student Outreach and Community Outreach programs above all else.

The music selected is both challenging and rewarding for the players and interesting and enjoyable for the audience.

Celebrity Concert Series
Dixie State College Celebrity Concert Series (CCS) was formally organized in 1958 with Dr. Ron Garner as manager. Seven professional and non-professional concerts were presented that year. Prior to 1958, irregular presenting periods were extended to the community as is evidenced in a recently discovered season pass dated 1922. That season five concerts were offered at a cost of two-dollars for the year.
Robert Dalton managed the series from 1965 to 1995 and nurtured it to its present prestige of 12 professional - world-class concerts. The manager from 1995 to the present is Gail Bunker, who continues this legacy and also introduced the Special Artist Series - a recital concert program consisting of five to six events. A CCS president and volunteer governing board are elected each year to serve one season. Each year the board strives to select a varied season with the finest concerts financially possible.

Utah Pioneer Heritage Arts
Wherever they went in the Intermountain West, the pioneers took their arts with them: song, dance, stories, poetry, brass bands, even such art-crafts as quilting and woodworking. A lot of artisans still practice those heritage arts, but Utah now has a new organization designed to bring all of them under one umbrella. An official "Signing of the Memorandum of Agreement" for the Utah Pioneer Heritage Arts association took place at the Sons of Utah Pioneers National Headquarters.
Utah Pioneer Heritage Arts seeks to preserve the memory of our pioneer ancestors by becoming the premiere proponent of pioneer-era arts and provider of cultural events featuring those arts, and derivative arts whose roots lie in that era. Through the combined efforts of its members, UPHA is building our sense of community, enhancing our standard of living, and strengthening our social fabric by preserving, nourishing, and showcasing our cultural roots.
