    The National Storytelling Network at http://www.storynet.org is honoring member Storytellers nationwide, who are recognized for their performing artistry and for their leadership and service promoting storytelling as a major influence that preserves our cultural history, our humanity, and our outlook for sustained and evolved human relationships. In San Antonio, Texas on July 9, 2011, Carol’s Western Region Oracle award comes to her after nominations from Idaho, Utah, Montana, Colorado, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Wyoming were reviewed.


    At the annual Scandinavian Heritage Festival in Ephraim, UT, Carol won first place in the storytelling competition for her first person live portrayal of the 15-year old girl who was the first Chief Telegrapher in Ephraim (born: September 5, 1869). Carol has recently portrayed other memorable and influential early American women such as Betsy Ross, Margaret Gardner, and (as The Widow Olsen), she told of defending her pea patch against Old Red, a hungry rooster!


    Carol Esterreicher is a member of the Utah Storytelling Guild at http://www.utahstorytellingguild.org . She cherishes an intimate relationship with words! Her specialty is conveying classic tales using word play strategies such as spoonerisms, lipograms, and substitutions that “tickle the tale.” She teaches these techniques in her workshops.     As an Associate Instructor in the University of Utah Lifelong Learning Program, Carol teaches a two-evening Storytelling Course during the summer session at the Sandy, Utah campus. To learn of other course offerings Visit http://www.lifelong.utah.edu

    Participants in Carol's advanced courses develop such unusual and entertaining tales as Ladle Rat Rotten Hoof and Beeping Sleauty! Carol has been telling stories and teaching children how to tell stories during her entire 30-year career as a speech-language pathologist. She has provided her Tickled Tales workshop at the 2007 Utah Arts Festival at the Community Writing Center. Carol has enjoyed two seasons as one of The Traveling Tellers supported by funding from the Utah Arts Council.     Carol and other Storytellers perform each summer during the Lunch Bunch Concert Series at the Utah Gallivan Center at www.thegallivancenter.com. Musicians, Dancers, Vocalists, and Storytellers entertain from noon until 1:00 p.m. every Monday-Friday. This year, join Carol on August 31st and September 15th.


    Be sure to check out the Salt Lake County Libraries during the 2011-2012 season for more Storytelling and "Magic You Can Do" performances. At Salt Lake County libraries at http://www.slcolibrary.org in previous years, Carol's programs delighted audiences with "Tales to Tickle Your Funny Bone." Fairy Tales were told in "spoonerisms" (mixed up sounds and syllables).


    Last July, at the West Jordan Library, Carol demonstrated how to create a magic show for classroom and school talent show performances. During her career as a speech/language pathologist she taught easy entertainment magic tricks to elementary and middle school students who actually did perform in their schools! Carol's program is ready-to-go for scout meetings and other organizations as well.


    Christmas Eve, 2010 marked the 7th year in a row that Carol has been Solitude Ski Resort’s Christmas Eve Storyteller at Club Solitude. Listen to "The Chright before Nistmas," on Storyteller.net/tellers/cesterreicher


    First Night in Salt Lake City 2008 featured Storyteller, Carol Esterreicher at the Leonardo (the former Salt Lake City Library building) at 200 East 500 South. Three performances addressed the storytelling enthusiasm of young children and adults as well!

    Carol and seven other Storytellers drew large crowds each day at the Big Mouth Cafe during the 2008 Utah Arts Festival . More and more of our audiences are realizing that "storytelling" is a dynamic form of live entertainment that differs dramatically from "storyreading." It's magically interactive! "Storytelling" engages the audience's imaginative response!


    The Salt Lake City Freedom Film and Storytelling Festivals are gradually moving into additional venues beside the restored Post Theatre on Fort Douglas. Carol and other Storytellers appear with Brian Jackson Fetzer, the Festival organizer, at the Murray Amphitheatre and other venues throughout the year.


    Carol's proposal was selected for "Fringe" Storytelling at the National Storytelling Conference (NSN) in Los Angeles, CA July 29-August 1, 2010 Fringe Title: ALAKAZAM! We Have Talent Too! Description : “Snapshot” narratives showcase five special education students I coached for their eventual “debuts” in their school’s talent show. Magical demonstrations, props, music, lighting enhancement, and audience participation celebrate their stories. Fringe Categories : Improvisational / Family/Solo/Audience Participation. At the annual Florida Storytelling Camp in March, Carol has been invited to present a workshop on preparing and participating in Fringe Storytelling Festivals--Tell your story your way!
