About the artist:

Matt Slack began taking piano lessons at 5 years old, and continued to have lessons on piano for the next 12 years. At the age of 11 he started taking private lessons on percussion with Emily Just. She became most influential on his classical training, on timpani, concert snare etc. At age 11 he was apart of the internationally recognized Civic Youth Orchestra of San Diego. During high school Matt was the section leader of the Carlsbad Drumline who was recognized throughout Southern California for their many awards. At age 15 Matt began being hired professionally to be the percussionist for many theater productions for Carlsbad Community Theater and later Moonlight Stage Productions. Later while attending BYU he has been a part of many different ensembles including: - Symphonic Band - Symphony Orchestra - Marching Band - Panoramic Steel Band - Cougar Pep Band - Percussion Ensemble The fall season of 2007 Matt was the drumline instructor for Bingham High School in South Jordan Utah where they received various awards for outstanding percussion performance. For the last year Matt has been a part of Utah rock sensation Ivy League. Ivy league's self released album came out in August of 2007 followed by a tour of the West coast playing 16 shows hitting 6 states. Ivy League has played shows, parties, charity events to crowds numbering 3,000+ and has shared the stage with such names as One Republic, The Presidents of the U.S.A. & The Ataris. Recently Matt has been a part of Pop/Jazz group Truman who has won BYU Battle of the Bands for 2 consecutive years. During his career he has always had private students and enjoys teaching in all areas of percussion.
