About the artist:
David Black is an experienced educator in Media Design and Video Production. For 20 years he has taught adults and high school students how to use design software. He is an expert at integrating multiple forms of media (images, photos, sound, 2D and 3D animations, text, and video) into his projects. He and his students have received national attention for their participation in the Mars Exploration Student Data Team (MESDT) project in 2003-04, where they had access to direct scientific data coming from Mars space probes, which they converted into images and animations. His students filmed and edited a two-hour documentary for KUED, Salt Lake City's PBS Station, entitled "AM to FM: Three Decades of Radio in Utah." They interviewed 25 current and former DJs from Utah's radio stations, digitized thousands of photos, concert posters, music surveys, and station jingles, created animations and titles, and edited it all into a documentary which aired in 2007. David is now working with science and media classes in Utah's schools to tell the stories of the chemical elements in Utah: how they are mined, refined, and turned into finished products. His techniques of integrating 3D modeling and art have been published in School Arts Magazine.
