I went last year with my children and we all had fun. This is a great idea and I plan on attending every year. The only upset was I thought activities were exclusive to those who wore the shirts but instead found myself waiting in line for "exclusive" activities behind non-shirt purchasers. Collapse

The Elijah oratorio is not done as frequently as Messiah. In the past I’ve had to wait years to hear it performed live. When I last heard it the the soloist was the major draw. But under the demanding and gifted work of Dr. Brady Allred the Salt Lake Choral Artists have been able to devote the time and preparation this piece deserves. As a member of his choir I can attest it has been rigorous work, but at the same time pleasure. What glorious music this is, and telling such an incredible story. For the time being my favorite moment in the oratorio is when the men sing "Go return upon thy way" –music so beautifully crafted by Mendelssohn and coupled with the vocal skill Allred magically pulls from the men’s section it is like you are transported to the prophet's side and hearing the commission with Elijah himself. Year after year, this traditional, Carnatic Classical Music Festival has delivered consistently with world class musicians, only getting better - something the Salt Lake City area music enthusiasts can look forward to. Nevertheless, this festival has a cozy, friendly environment that enables candid experience with the artists and the enthusiasts alike. The only lacking aspect of this festival that I can note is probably the funding that it recieves vis-a-vis what such an event demands. Collapse

While these four one act plays, all written by local high school students, lack the polish that comes from experience and from working with a show until it progresses to a hit, they are surprisingly well written and performed. The series consists of three comedies and one drama. The first of the quartet is a fairy tale search for a missing princess, If the Shoe Fits by Chelsea King, West Jordan High. Second a study in communication called Miscommunication by Gabriel Spencer, Hillcrest. The last is a look at Alzheimers, Unforgetable by Eva Terra Nova, Olympus. All performed surprisingly well. By far the best of the series is The Casualties by Megan Chase of Riverton High School. Examining the grief, guilt, and recrimination of a hit and run driver and the victim's sister, show find themselves stuck in an elevator. The performance of this amazing drama brought tears to my eyes. The Casualties by itself is worth the drive to Magna. Collapse

Last night's opening program showed BW at its most brilliant. It was a strong and varied program with opportunities to see the dancers in unexpected and surprising roles. Serenade was particularly breathtaking in the overall presentation and stylistic interpretation. While special recognition needs to go to Ms. Bennet and Ms. Crews for their performances, kudos must also go to the corps who were flawless. Mr. Ruud shone in the Hamlet & Ophelia Pas de Deux. It was delightful to see Ms. Brenneman's take on the challenging role of Ophelia. Although technically strong, I personally would've enjoyed a more dramatic expressiveness in this poignant role. Continuo presented the Company men with a great opportunity to showcase their respective strenghts. Regrettably, while it did this for some (Bravo, Mr.Sellars!)it also showed the need for improvement in others. The Company excelled in Sinatra Songs and had the audience humming in the lobby on leaving. Great evening of dance. Thank you BW! Collapse

This cast stands out even for Hale Centre Theatre. I loved the music and thought the moments presented were both significant and poignant. This is a must see for any serious theater-goer.

Thanks for the comment regarding new playwrights and how much you enjoyed THE END OF THE HORIZON I would like to be sure it's clear that Utah Shakespearean Festival's New American Playwright's Project first workshopped the play, then we at Plan-B did further workshopping before our world premiere production. It is specifically part of Plan-B's mission to fully produce works by Utah playwrights. Collapse
