I will admit I am a fan of the whole community theatre concept. It is an example of a community at the pinnacle hierarchy of needs. It feeds the soul. And it is usually very funny. It is your friends and neighbors... This time in Oz. Some sing beautifully, some do not. Some dance, some do not. But here we all are together. Murray Arts in the Park's Wizard of Oz is one of the finest examples of community theatre at it's best. The yellow brick road had it's bumps, but the point was the journey. Each of the four main protagonists, Dorthy, Scarecrow, Tin Man and the Lion had moments to shine supported by a strong singing community ensemble. The technical issue (like the witch getting stuck mid flight effect) or the odd missed line made you want to root for the actor as much as the character. A stand out of perfection wad the costumes which could have been at home on the most professional of stages... And there is no place like home. Collapse

This is a program designed for toddlers not preschoolers. My 4yo daughter went and it was far below her abilities. Kind of sad to pay the money, drive downtown and be disappointed.

Caught Gypsy at The Egyptian in Park City last night. Folks, this is a must-see. I am old enough to have seen the great Ethel Merman in this musical's original Broadway run. Teresa Sanderson may not be Ethel, but she's a worthy successor (as Rosalind Russell was not in the film version). Teresa has the voice, the energy, the size, the stage presence, everything you need. And what you need is to make the trip up there and see this show. Amid the umpteenth production of The Music Man (which I love) or Once Upon a Mattress (which I don't), we may lose track of how great a songwriter Jule Styne was, or just how much better a lyricist Stephen Sondheim was than a klutz like Tim Rice. This is great music, and the band (almost always) does it justice. The rest of the cast is excellent, too. I'm going to see this one again, and if you're smart, you'll join me. This is a Mama Rose not to be missed. g Collapse
