Tuacahn Amphitheatre and Center for the Arts
Tuacahn Center for the Arts is a professional non-profit presenting and producing organization that inspires creativity and greatness in the human spirit by providing world class family entertainment and education. Tuacahn produces top-quality musical theatre and concerts, hosts a variety of special events, offers education and outreach programs to school-age children and adults, and supports other charities and community events. Doug Stewart, a local playwright, found Tuacahn's site in 1993. A non-profit organization was created and raised $23-million to build the Tuacahn Amphitheatre and Center for the Arts on the 80 acre parcel at the base of Padre Canyon. The plan was more than ambitious. Tuacahn facilities include a 330 seat indoor theater, a dance studio, black-box theater, recital hall, costume shop, scene shop, studios, classrooms, concessions stand and a gift shop. All were built to complement the jewel of Tuacahn, a 1,920-seat outdoor amphitheatre. Tuacahn opened in the spring of 1995. In August 1999 Tuacahn began operation of the Tuacahn High School for the Performing Arts, Utah's first charter high school. Students are engrossed in an exceptional college preparatory curriculum along with unprecedented opportunities to rub shoulders with working theatre professionals at the Tuacahn Amphitheatre.
