Presented by Art at the Main at Art at the Main January 16-February 11, 2012 Ceramic artist William James is inspired by the mysteries of the ocean in his new collection of pottery Life Aquatic at Art at the Main Gallery. The organic shapes and colors of squids, octopi, and jellyfish become more fantastical in the hands of James, who re-imagines them as lamps, jars, and other functional shapes.

Return to the Mountains: New Watercolors by J. Hunter Stout
Presented by Art at the Main at Art at the Main February 13-March 10, 2012 As a field engineer for a mining machine company, John Stout lived and worked in many wild places around the world. Those wild places, and especially his beloved Rocky Mountains, figure prominently in his watercolor paintings. Though he often detours to new subject matter, he always returns to the mountains.

Topaz: Artists in Internment
Presented by Utah Division of Arts and Museums at Rio Gallery February 2-February 10, 2012 Utah Arts & Museums presents the traveling exhibit Topaz: Artists in Internment, Their Visual Work and Words, at the Rio Gallery. The exhibit features artworks created during internment at the Topaz War Relocation Center near Delta, Utah, on loan from the Topaz Museum. Artwork by Chiura Obata, Setsu Nagata Kanehara, Charles Erabu Mikami, Mine Okubo, Thomas Ryosaku Matsuoka, Yajiro Okamoto, Kenji Utsumi and Kaneo Kido will be shown alongside the poetry of Lawson Inada.

Presented by Utah Museum of Contemporary Art at Utah Museum of Contemporary Art January 6-April 21, 2012 Luther received a BFA at Utah State University and then an MFA from University of Nebraska-Lincoln before returning to Utah. During the course of his graduate studies, Luther began to investigate the realms of epistemology and linguistics within his work. Pieces consisted of random letters and numbers signifying the arbitrary nature of language. Fax
Presented by Utah Museum of Contemporary Art at Utah Museum of Contemporary Art March 2-April 21, 2012 Fax invites a multigenerational group of artists, architects, designers, scientists, filmmakers and writers to reconceive of the fax machine as a thinking and drawing tool. Participants transmit their fax-based work via the venues' working fax lines through the duration of the exhibition's tour.
