Hermanos Gutiérrez
Hermanos Gutiérrez Presented by The Commonwealth Room at The Commonwealth Room Mar 27, 2023 “When Alejandro and I play together, it’s like we are driving a car,” says Estevan Gutiérrez, one half of the guitar duo Hermanos Gutiérrez. “It’s like we are taking a road trip. Sometimes we’re driving through a desert. Sometimes we’re traveling up the coast. But always we are in nature, and we see the most beautiful landscapes, sunrises, sunsets.” The music these two brothers make evokes expansive plains and rough wildernesses, saguaros and surfs, spaghetti westerns and Morricone soundtracks, Lynch and Jarmusch. With their guitars they travel through landscapes haunted by vaqueros, cancioneros, wanderers, fugitives, lovers, family—and whatever ghosts their listeners bring to the music. “Each album is a journey on its own,” says Alejandro Gutiérrez. “We just have to go with the music, trust in ourselves, and see where it takes us.” El Bueno Y El Malo is their most epic journey yet: Working with the Black Keys’ Dan… |

Maggie Lindemann
Maggie Lindemann Presented by The Commonwealth Room at The Commonwealth Room Mar 28, 2023 Building on the sharpened songwriting and singularly honed-in sounds she’d established on PARANOIA, Maggie spent a year building the foundation of her debut studio album, SUCKERPUNCH, a body of work that chronicles a journey of self-discovery and actualization. “It's the journey from being upset to being angry to being hopeful – a hopefulness I want listeners to know exists for them, too,” she says. It’s also the rare narrative record that’s songs also stand as strongly alone as they do in sequenced order. “I was still in the PARANOIA headspace, and I didn’t want to leave it, but as we made these songs, you can hear me growing and going deeper than I ever have before,” Maggie notes. “Even if some of the melodies changed or production elements took new form, a lot of SUCKERPUNCH is as we originally wrote and intended it – songs that showcase the new version… |

Dissolving Contradictions Art Exhibit Presented by Salt Lake City Public Library Day-Riverside Branch at Salt Lake City Public Library Day Riverside Branch Feb 15 - Mar 29, 2023 Collaborative Art Exhibit by Mollie Hosmer-Dillard • Exhibit runs from February 15 to March 29, 2023 ARTIST STATEMENT: Dissolving Contradictions is a two-fold exhibition: it includes a series of paintings by incarcerated youth from the Salt Lake City area as well as a large-scale “multi-vocal” painting (Clouds) made by over 200 citizens of Salt Lake City. The title of the exhibition unites all the paintings on display: All of them utilize art as a space where we can practice dissolving contradictions between how the world is, and how we imagine it could be. ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: UTAH TECH’S HIGHER EDUCATION FOR INCARCERATED YOUTH PROGRAM During a college-credit art seminar taught by Mollie Hosmer-Dillard through Utah Tech University, incarcerated youth discussed surrealism and the freedom and possibilities offered by the blank canvas. Theo Katzman
Theo Katzman Presented by The State Room at The State Room Mar 29, 2023 "Modern Johnny is a feeling," says Theo Katzman in regards to his third LP, Modern Johnny Sings: Songs in the Age of Vibe. "He's an archetypal character who represents the plight of the singer songwriter trying to make it in today's music world." Modern Johnny is not an alter-ego, per se, but he and Katzman do have some striking similarities. Born in the mid-80s, both were raised on the rubble of 90s rock radio, the remains of their parents' record collections, a handful of 'Greatest Hits' CDs, and several hard drives worth of mis-credited MP3s from Napster. Both left home for [INSERT BIG CITY] with a "songs-can-change-the-world" attitude. Both find themselves stumbling through the free market in the age of social, the age of streaming... the Age of Vibe. And it's a confusing climate out there. Billy Joel hasn't released an album in nearly three decades, Stevie Wonder is ranked… |

Keshi: Hell & Back Tour
Keshi: Hell & Back Tour Presented by The Union Event Center at The Union Event Center Mar 29, 2023 Keshi is the moniker of Casey Luong, a singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose immersive and introspective songs have drawn in millions of fans worldwide. First releasing music on SoundCloud in 2017, the 28-year-old from Houston, Texas could only share his sonically textured confessionals about love and loneliness under the anonymous veil of his stage name. Now with over 4.4 billion global streams, Luong has grown to live as the otherworldly “keshi” persona everyday. He ascended to pop star status with 2022’s GABRIEL, his sonically adventurous project that earned him the year’s Billboard Top New Artist Debut at the time. A hypnotizing performer with an arresting falsetto, he subsequently sold out almost every single night across more than 60 shows on his debut headlining tour, HELL/HEAVEN, throughout Europe, North America, Australia and Asia. Migguel Anggelo: LatinXoxo
Migguel Anggelo: LatinXoxo Presented by UtahPresents at Kingsbury Hall - University of Utah Mar 31, 2023 LatinXoxo is Migguel Anggelo’s nonconforming and self-accepting rallying cry: A break from “Latin Lover” clichés and his own Venezuelan father’s gendered expectations. LatinXoxo was designed to immerse an audience in a highly personal story. It is an artful collage of theater, queer comedy, physical movement, and sumptuous song selections. The musical repertoire spans decades of pop hits, his own original compositions, and the Spanish boleros that defined his youth. With equal doses of sensitivity and sensationalism, “turning on a dime from anger to devastating tenderness” (Broadway World), Migguel Anggelo reminds us that our greatest love is right there in the mirror. With musical direction by Jaime Lozano and a book by C. Julian Jiménez, LatinXoxo is conceived by Migguel Anggelo and directed by Adrian Alexander Alea. “LatinXoxo is a provocative and meaningful musical memoir that leaves us with the momentous message to focus on the positive and to show who… |

Mutiny Music Collective Presents Shiverz Presented by The Commonwealth Room at The Commonwealth Room Mar 31, 2023 The producer and DJ who was once fortunate enough to have his finger on the pulse on the birth of the dubstep/riddim genre from its earliest stages appropriately enough became responsible for the invention of a highly unique DJing style within the genre itself called “chopping;” a style that couples perfectly with his high octane stage presence, resulting in an adrenaline fueled remix or mashup of sorts between two tracks - a technique that many dubstep DJs have since adopted for use during their own live sets. A style that has since earned him the fitting nickname of Shiverz “Da Butcher.” Aside from his title as the forefather of “chopping,” Shiverz is the founder of the MONSTERS dubstep collective. Bumpin Uglies
Bumpin Uglies Presented by Soundwell at Soundwell Apr 01, 2023 BUMPIN UGLIES with KYLE SMITH Bumpin Uglies knows all about hustle. The Maryland reggae-rock band had spent more than a decade on the road, starting with local open mics and backyard parties and growing into road warriors, building an ever-expanding audience with sold-out shows in clubs and prime spots at festivals from coast to coast, on one national tour after another. Then the pandemic hit, and touring shut down. After being in motion for so long, singer and lead guitarist Brandon Hardesty wasn’t about to sit still, even if he couldn’t be out on tour. In fact, Bumpin Uglies never really stopped working — they adapted. The group returned to playing backyard parties around Annapolis, where they’re based, and added socially distanced concerts and full-band livestreams. In the fall of 2020, they also started releasing a new song every month as part of a project called the Never Ending Drop. “We… |

Comedy Church Presents: Easter
Comedy Church Presents: Easter Presented by Urban Lounge at Urban Lounge Apr 02, 2023 Comedy Church is hosted by Greg Kyte and Adam Broud. Both of them used to be insanely religious people but are now faithless and destined to burn in hell. In the long term, it’s kind of a bummer. But in the short term, it makes for a pretty good comedy show. Each Comedy Church show features new comedians as well as religious topics. Comedy Church takes an agnostic stance towards faith. Although Adam and Greg are atheists, they’re not the a-hole type. For instance, interviews focus on comedically learning about guests’ experiences rather than trying to find “gotcha” moments regarding religion. To emphasize this, past guests have included people of diverse backgrounds and members of various faiths. |

Shami Kanekar Art Exhibit
Shami Kanekar Art Exhibit Presented by Red Butte Garden at Red Butte Garden Feb 24 - Apr 03, 2023 Meet Shami Kanekar and learn more about her work at the artist reception on March 4 from 2-5 PM. Shami Kanekar artist biography: I am a self-taught artist. I create stylized floral animal and abstract designs using watercolor, acrylic paint, and oil pastel. Painting is a form of deep meditation for me, centering me and removing me from the chaos of everyday life. I seek to create art which is peaceful, while being full of color and life. As a gardener and life-long admirer of plants, I feel constantly inspired by plants and flowers around me. Colors and shapes of flowers and leaves on summer walks. Textures in drying grasses as I hike in the fall. These seep into my consciousness and art happens! My work is often influenced by traditional folk art of Southeast Asia.
