Steve Auerbach

Biography: Steve Auerbach made his first studio recording and was performing in New York nightclubs by age 17. By age 19, Steve moved himself to Los Angeles where he was ‘in the right place, at the right time’ and developed a reputation as something of an expert at synthesizer programming and sound design. Steve worked for producers and recording artists doing a lot of this work in the home recording studios of his famous clients. In the 80s, Steve befriended some of Frank Zappa’s musicians; Ike Willis and Steve Vai. Willis hired Steve as manager and agent and Vai hired Steve as sound engineer for his band, The Classified. Steve went on to work as a staff writer and arranger for legendary Motown producer, Harry Balk for his new Avatar Records label in Malibu. Steve came to Utah in the late 1980s for work at the Electronic Music Laboratory at the University of Utah where he served as teaching assistant for two tears under the composer in residence, electronic music pioneer, Dr. Vladimir Ussachevsky. Steve taught an electronic music theory, history/technique and did some experimental electronic music at this time as well as some original music scores and soundtracks for student films. One of these films won an award at the Oswego Film Festival in NY. While attending the University, Steve was also a part-time rock radio DJ and jingle writer/producer. Steve also staged a one man multimedia performance art show called WORDFUNWORDJERKWERKS at galleries and arts centers in the area. Steve performed in several Utah bands while engaged in a ten-year career in social work. During his social work career, Steve had a paper published by the Utah Psychological Association and served as a consultant to Utah Courts and Corrections. Steve produced an award-winning jazz concert series in 1997 and ran a booking agency and record label featuring some of his ‘LA’ clients. In 2002 Steve co-produced the CD Ike Willis” Selected Works with Grammy Award-winner Douglas Spotted Eagle. From 2005-2008, Steve developed and managed after-school music programs for the Paul Green School of Rock Music in Utah, Colorado and Texas. Steve completed his tenure with School of rock in 2008 and has been doing independent music and film production since then. In 2009, Steve’s music production (and vocal) work won two ‘Addy’ awards from the Utah Advertising Federation for the anti-tobacco TV spots, “Smokerman’ for Crowell Advertising and the Utah Department of Health. Jay Beck

Composer; Musician

Jay L. Beck is a pianist and composer. He taught music with young children at the Waterford School in Sandy, Utah, for 29 years. Waterford awarded him the Educator Prize in 2003 and in 2018 he was named the distinguished Nancy and Dustin Heuston Endowed Chair. Mr. Beck studied piano performance with Paul Pollei and Richard Anderson, music composition with Robert Manookian and Merrill Bradshaw, and graduated with a Master of Music Degree in Piano Pedagogy from Brigham Young University in 1983. His research book “The Compositional Process of Charles Ives’s First Piano Sonata, First Movement” is a monumental study of the compositional process. He worked with the Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation for 15 years. He was president of the Utah Music Teachers Association for four years, directed the recital/lecture series of the Alpine Community Arts Council for 20 years, and served as president of the Utah Chapter of the American Orff-Schulwerk Association. His compositional works include many pieces for solo piano, a piece for two pianos/eight hands, pieces for string and wind ensembles, a piece for symphonic band, songs for solo voice, arranged and original songs for children’s voices, two original concert dramas, songs for educational software, and music for eight theatrical productions–one that toured throughout Utah at over 130 schools and at Sundance Institute’s Summer Theatre, and another produced in New York City. Bronwen Beecher

A violinist since the age of 7, Bronwen went to Loyola University, New Orleans on scholarship studying music therapy and violin performance. Though the classical music program was rigorous, she was enchanted in her off hours to experience the panoply of musical styles which surrounded her in New Orleans. She found herself playing in a gothic band, jamming with Irish musicians in a favorite pub when “Lord of the Dance,” came through town, and, with platinum blond hair and green fingernails, was noticeably the only white singer in the Loyola U. gospel choir. In the years to follow she focussed less on her classical roots, preferring instead to learn more and more about the seemingly vastly different styles of music, in some cases pioneering ways a violin could fit into each genre. From her history of award-winning classical violinist to purple-haired fiddling street performer, Bronwen now understands much more than how to play an instrument. She understands music at its’ root. It is this understanding that makes every kind of music and instrument graspable… simple. Like the outlines in a fine sketch, it all becomes different accents to the white, silent space. For the past decade Bronwen has played professionally in classical, rock, Celtic, bluegrass, folk, and alternative ensembles in clubs, cafe’s, festivals, recording studios, and on tour locally and nationally.

Paul Boruff

Paul will be performing at the Wrap-up Celebration (Safety & Health Fair) Utah Cultural Celebration Center 1355 W 3100 S 5:30 – 8 p.m. I will be performing from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm on the inside stage. See you there. Paul Boruff, a native of Phoenix, Arizona, enjoys performing for people of all ages. At the age of five or six, he was captured on home movies singing Elvis Presley songs, and doing his best to entertain. Paul began playing the guitar at about the age of ten. The music he was exposed to was quite varied and was rich in diversity: Buddy Holly, The Beatles, Hank Williams, Eddie Arnold, Chet Atkins, Bob Dylan, Nat King Cole and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Paul’s father was the primary music influence in those early years, and his music was mostly country with a mixture of thirties and forties classics thrown in. During Paul’s four years with the United States Navy he performed in the Admiral’s Band, out of Memphis, Tennessee. The style was “Big Band.” The Navy gave him opportunity to travel and to experience music of many other cultures. Paul has traveled and performed all over the world from London to Dover, from Zurich to Gda?sk and from Amsterdam to Paris. In the United States he performs from Alaska to Florida and California to New York. Paul’s acoustic style includes all the influences of his past. His forte is vocals and his singing has been described as “each word is an event.” Making music comes as easily to him as breathing; his expansive repertoire transcends the barriers of age and cultural differences. Whether it is an original interpretation of an old standard or a tune of his own creation, Paul sings from the heart and plays from his soul. Music has also been a catalyst for other art forms inspiring Paul in performances for theater and film, and even oil painting. In addition to touring, house concerts, theatre performances and film he has been actively involved with the National Veterans Creative Arts Festival, winning in various categories for nine years. When the Festival was hosted in Salt Lake City he had the opportunity to open the show at Kingsbury Hall. The diversity of Paul’s music has lead to many adventures. He has opened for Taj Mahal and Charlie Daniels. He has performed at Michael Martin Murphy’s West Fest and for international heads of states at the World Peace Forum including President Ford. I enjoy the history of the fur trapping era! In my first-person performance I stand before my audience as a nameless Mountain Man in authentic buckskins who weaves music and story-telling into fresh, exciting accounts of the famous men who first ventured up the Missouri. I recount my adventures with John Colter, Jedediah Smith, Joe Meek, and Cannibal Bill as we search for and trap beaver and deal with the every-day excitement of Indian encounters, bear encounters, river encounters, buffalo encounters and whiskey encounters. By improvising I include the audience in the excitement and even in my performance. The songs are original, the stories are true—Waugh! Travis Cox

Travis Cox is 25 years old and is a versatile actor who has played all types of roles from Shakespeare to Musical Theatre. His most recent, and possibly most challenging role was that of the title role in Macbeth. Some favorite roles include: Action – West Side Story, Judge Turpin – Sweeney Todd, Andrew Rally – I Hate Hamlet, Orlando – As You Like It, Hortensio – Taming of the Shrew, File – 110 in the Shade, Herrick – The Crucible, Senex – A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and many more. Last Summer he acted in Biloxi Blues, as Joseph Wykowski, and Harvey, as Dr. Lyman Sanderson, in The Neil Simon Festival. He has worked on a Short Film for IHC called ‘We’ll be There’ and ‘Hey Kiddo’ for The Space Between Theatre. He is also a member of ‘Off the Cuff’ a highly successful improve troupe. Andrew Dabczynski

Andrew H. Dabczynski, Professor Emeritus of Music Education at Brigham Young University, is an internationally recognized string mu- sic education specialist. He has vast experience as a public school and collegiate string/orchestra instructor and conductor, public school administrator, community music education coordinator, composer/ arranger, and performing violist/violinist. He received a Bachelor’s degree at the Eastman School of Music, a Master’s degree at the University of Connecticut and a Ph.D. in Music Education at the University of Michigan. Dr. Dabczynski has appeared frequently as guest clinician, consultant, and conductor throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Australia and New Zealand. His research interests include string pedagogy, fiddling and folk music, and lifelong music education. He is co-author of the String Explorer string method series, the Fiddlers Philharmonic series, and numerous arrangements for school orchestra. Dr. Dabczynski is available for presentations and residencies focused upon string instruction, fiddling, and folk music traditions directed at either general or musically oriented student populations. For existing orchestra programs, he helps students to become familiar with a vari- ety of fiddling styles, teaches basics of improvisation, and demon- strates how fiddling and folk music can enhance classical technique and performance. Dr. Dabczynski is also available for guest conduct- ing and adjudication, as well as coaching of orchestras and chamber ensembles. He is available to present in-service training to general classroom teachers and music specialists. Teacher training programs can be de- veloped and customized to meet the specific educational needs of in- dividual school programs.

Simon Daum

Simon Daum is a young composer from Germany. His musicial training includes two years of piano lessons which he took when he was about 8 years of age. In addition to that he also played the trumpet for a few years. One of the reasons why he stopped taking piano lessons was because he wasn’t satisfied with playing songs "which everyone was playing". Composing has always been his greatest love. Although Simon can barely play songs which are notated, and although music is not his profession yet, he has still been able to reach people with his own compositions. People describe his music as being full of emotion, uplifting, and very calming. So far Simon has published 4 albums : 1. "Beyond", 2. "The Best of Simon Daum" 3. "Steadfast" 4. "New Hope" Simon has written music for many different occasions, such as movies, computergames and other similar projects. His music is mainly influenced by his faith in God and his great love for nature. The greatest success for Simon is, when his music can make a small difference in the world, a small difference for the good !

Julie is known as Julie Dees on Keys. As a pianist she performs many different types of music. (Oldies, Romantic, Country, Classical, Gospel, Show Tunes, etc.. She plays at many venues such as Conference, Banquets, Weddings, Resturants, etc…. She performed at Senator Orrin Hatch,s Seniors Conference in Utah, 2010. Julie has recorded three cds. (Old Romantics, Inspirational, and Country Christmas. July 2010 she will be realeasing a Childrens/Disney cd. Julie has over 25 years experience performing and entertaining as a pianist. She has written/compossed and recorded her first song in 2010 for the Disney Cd.

Cynthia Douglass

Cynthia Lynn Douglass is nationally known as an expert on the Celtic, electric and cross-strung harps. After twenty years of study on the violin, clarinet, and renaissance recorders, Cynthia discovered the rich harmonies of the Celtic harp and the healing effects it gives her listeners. Twenty years later, the Celtic harp is still her favorite instrument and her primary focus. Her work with the harp is broad in scope: in addition to being a nationally known performer and recording artist, Cynthia has begun over 100 students on the Celtic harp, and has formed and directed three harp ensembles: the Augusta Harp Ensemble in Augusta, GA, the Birmingham Harp Ensemble in Birmingham, AL, and Celtic Harpistry in Salt Lake City UT. She currently directs Waking Erin, a traditional Celtic band. She has taught homeless women to play the harp, and played at the bedside for patients in hospitals and nursing homes. Cynthia offers workshops to harpers and harpists all over the country on subjects ranging from Passionate Playing to Learning a Celtic Tune in a Session and Bass Patterns for Improvising and Arranging. Her current recording project focuses on love songs from the Middle East, a project to enhance public awareness and appreciation for the beauty of the arts from the Middle East, where she was born and raised.

Headlining at the East Of Vegas Show opening in St. George's newest hotel's Kalahari Room is Utah's own Stan Bronson with his "Unplugged" renditions of hit songs from Rock & Roll's beginning days in the 50's and 60's. It's a walk down memory lane as well as a fun-filled celebration as Bronson sings old hits by Elvis, Buddy Holly, Ricky Nelson, Paul Anka, Richie Valens, Jim Reeves, Fats Domino, Frankie Avalon, Fabian and more. Theresa Ellis and SYNKOFA - Celtic Jazz

World-class violinist/recording artist Theresa Ellis of Eden, Utah is the founder of the 4 piece ensemble SYNKOFA (sing-Koh-fa) and helped to pioneer the genre of Celtic Jazz for this instrumental group. The first formation of the group was with her husband in 1992 and was known as Ellis & Franklin until Clio award winner Jimmy Franklin’s death in 2005. The group was redeveloped as SYNKOFA and their kickoff event “Celtic Concerto” 2011 launched the full new acoustic formation as it is today. All the members are educators as well as regional concert performers. Players include long-time member Stephen Wesson on the upright bass violin, and newest and youngest member cellist Aisha Zuiter, both originally from Salt Lake City. The group features finger-style guitarist and composer Eric McKenna-Spreng. Ms. Ellis hails from Detroit, Michigan where she recorded with the Motown String Sections, performed in the Nashville Symphony, recorded with various legendary artists there, and eventually fiddling for television and the Grand Ole Opry. Performance of her original music can be available for community block bookings, and school assembly concerts as part of residency culmination concerts. Ms. Ellis will do residencies, extended projects, and short-term and themed workshops as well as collaborations.

Aaron Foster

Aaron Foster is both a pianist and composer for piano. He has received several honorable mentions on the international level of the annual music Composers Guild competition, as well as 2002’s "Utah Best Keyboard Composition" of that competition. Most notable, however, are the humanity and emotion that permeate his piano compositions. His style often fuses both old and modern influences, ranging from Classical, New Age, and Film Score.

Lee Fugal

THE MUSIC AND COMEDY OF LEE FUGAL Whether it’s a kickin’ chorus of “Johnny B. Goode” on his electrified Baseball Bat Guitar or a studio quality piano love song from “Phantom of the Opera”, the Music and Comedy of Lee Fugal is sure to be a hit with your group. Lee also tells about and demonstrates the “10-fingered fireworks” of the stride-bass jazz pianists of the 1920’s and 30’s such as Willie ‘The Lion’ Smith and Fats Waller. His engineering training (Lee has a Masters in Physics) has helped him invent some very unusual musical instruments—all played expertly—that will amaze and please young and old alike. Lee entertains on cruise ships, festivals and fairs around the country. His performance credits also include three years at Disneyland, four years as a special events entertainer at Knott’s, national television, and several performance tours of Europe and Asia. Carlos Eligio Garcia’s forte is multiform: the harp, bandola, llanera, mandolina, cuatro, charango, guitar, keyboard and percussion. Carlos Eligio Garcia, played with Adilia Castillo, with Joselo Diaz and with Hector Cabrera, famous singers in South Venezuela. Carlos represented Venezuela in Colombia at the Festival Ibague. He played for the Venezuela government in its Capitol building. Also, part of the Araucanos Ensemble, his high profile professional career extended in South America over 28 years. In 1996, 1997, and 1998, Carlos was invited to Utah from South America to play at Brigham Young University, Liberty Park and Living Traditions Cultural Festival (contracted by the State of Utah through Craig Miller). After seeing this beautiful State and its peoples, he relocated to West Valley City, Utah and was immediately highlighted in the Salt Lake Tribune with the Venezuela Cantando group. The Rose Warner Theater invites Carlos, through Jessica Salazar, to perform in their fine arts schedule (2000-2006). The Tabernacle, located at Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City, and the Conference Center with Luz de las Naciones (Light of the Nations), invites Carlos’ to play regularly. The Consulate of Mexico highlights Carlos’ music. The State of Utah Capitol promoted Carlos’ music with meetings of governors. The Libby Hall Babcock Theatre and Kingsbury Theatre, at the University of Utah, hosts Carlos’ performances as well. Carlos wrote “La Chiquita,” a musical score for the mandolina. In love with music, Carlos taught music in the Venezuela prison; and educated prisoners to become musicians for local festivals. Here in Utah, Carlos plays for not-for-profit organizations like Heart & Soul Foundation, Lutheran Social Service of Utah Inter-Faith & Community-Wide Ministries, galleries, festival events, private events, churches and schools for the good of the people.

Rob Harmon Singer/Songwriter – Heber City, Utah Rob Harmon is a singer/songwriter who delivers from the heart. Beautiful and simple acoustic melodies are paired with his personal, occasionally gut-wrenching lyrics, to paint vivid images in the listener’s mind. Whether playing one of his heartfelt originals or a cover that he loves, you will hear a voice that captures the emotion, the moment and the setting of that song. Rob is an accomplished guitarist and has a lot of fun interacting with the audience when he is on stage. In fact, it’s hard to tell who is having more fun at one of Rob’s shows, the audience or Rob! Rob grew up in a musical family near Salt Lake City, Utah and singing came naturally from the start. As a child, he was surprised to learn some families don’t sing all the time. His early musical memories involve listening to his Dad play guitar around the campfire while uncles, aunts, cousins and siblings sang along. Rob’s first performance to a room full of strangers came in third grade, when he sang John Denver’s “Matthew” to a student/parent assembly on ”Back to School” night. Later, on a rainy family camping trip, Rob’s love affair with the guitar began. His dad showed him a handful of chords and there was no looking back. It wasn’t long before Rob was finger-picking all of his favorite folk songs and then began writing his own. When he became a father himself, Rob drifted away from performing and only played and sang as a hobby, focusing on raising kids and securing his non-musical career. But, the music within him could not be silenced and starting in 2008, Rob began to perform live again, and to spend more time working on the craft of songwriting than ever before. His recent compositions have benefited from those years on simmer. His music shows the depth of a man who has lived, loved and lost. Rob’s heartfelt songs like “Voices of the Heart” (written to his non-verbal autistic son), the upbeat “I Could See Myself Loving You”, and the soulful “Imagination,” ring with truth, reality and the various ways in which we experience love. Ultimately, for Rob, the most important role of music still revolves around family. His children all sing and he is more than excited to play the role of campfire song leader every chance he gets. And to boot, his Dad who started it all, is one of his biggest fans.

Bill Haymes

Composer’s Fellowship recipient and teaching artist Bill Haymes conducts professional development workshops nationally, leading teachers through a step-by-step process of rewriting familiar songs in order to explore and explicate a specific core-content topic, and to retain what is learned during that exploration. His basic workshop directly addresses the Common Core mandate to have all subjects support student literacy. He has worked as a teaching artist for over 30 years and is on the artists’ roster for the Utah Arts Council, the Tennessee Arts Commission and the Arkansas Arts Council. His basic workshop — Songwriting for the NOT very musical — uses music and melody as its medium but is at its core a creative writing experience and an instructional technique designed for any classroom teacher, not just music specialists. Participants need no special musical skills. Because the core content topics are usually chosen from the science or history/social science fields, this songwriting process ties in directly with the Common Core mandate to support literacy in all subjects. ARTIST’S BIOGRAPHY A life-long musician and singer-songwriter Bill Haymes continues to write songs and perform them in Nashville TN. He toured professionally as a singer/songwriter through the 1970s and 1980s while working concurrently as a teaching artist in music with the Arkansas Arts Council’s Artist-in-Education program. As a performer, he played music at over 150 colleges and universities in North America, in various community concerts and folk clubs nationwide, and toured internationally in Brazil, Bolivia, and Paraguay. As a teaching artist, he worked statewide at dozens of Arkansas public schools as an AIE artist in music & songwriting, doing one long-term (nine-week) songwriting residency for the Georgia Arts Council. He has appeared on “A Prairie Home Companion" and several times on “River City Folk.” He also performed at the Kerrville Folk Festival, where—over the years— he was both a New Folk winner and a five-time mainstage performer. He has five studio albums to his credit and received a Composer’s Fellowship from the Arkansas Arts Council, which allowed him to record and release his full-length recording "Anima / Ocean." During most of his one-week teaching artist residencies, he specialized in leading elementary students through the step-by-step process of composing an entire song using their own ideas—from generating a concept and a title, to writing lyrics for the refrain, composing melodies, and finally writing lyrics to the verse(s). For the last five years, Bill has changed his focus to work primarily with teachers. In his basic workshop, he shows teachers how to lead their students in working collaboratively to rewrite familiar songs to explicate and teach specific subject matter. In his advanced workshop — Writing a song from scratch — he shows teachers, step-by-step, how to lead their students in writing an entire original song — music and lyrics — from start to finish. He has give professional development workshops at 11 of the 15 Education Service Cooperatives in Arkansas over the past five years, being invited back repeatedly to several of them. He has also given workshops at colleges and for arts councils. He recently completed a 4-day residency for ArtsFusion at Southern Utah University. He currently lives in Nashville TN, where he is valiantly attempting to learn to speak and read French. Progress is slow. ARTIST STATEMENT I have always felt that art is based in play. Those who play with sounds and rhythms as children often grow up to be musicians (as I did). I enjoy leading others in writing (or rewriting) songs collaboratively because it is a way for me to share with them the simple but profound pleasure of playing with words and music, sound and rhythm, ideas and images, and also the pleasure of making something new—of creating something from a single thought, a single phrase, or one powerful image. And, if I am successful, I have also given them the tools to lead others (their students) in doing the same – creating something from (almost) nothing. She encouraged Chris to attend a Berklee College of Music Summer Program which eventually led to his obtaining a degree from Berklee in professional music. After graduating from Berklee College of Music Chris played for 20 years in the Boston area with the Winiker Band – The Boston Globe called the Winikers "Boston’s House Band." Some events Chris has performed include President Clinton’s Presidential Inaugural Ball, Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Ballet, Harvard University, and some venues such as The Wang Center, Boston’s Regatta Bar, The Parker House Hotel, Zanzibar, and The Colonnade. Chris gained his vast repertoire playing countless events on the East Coast. Chris relocated to the Salt Lake area where he was embraced and quickly earned a reputation as one of the area’s finest guitarists. Michael Leavitt

Before moving to Utah, Michael worked throughout the Las Vegas valley as musical director and/or pianist-conductor for many musical theater productions including Brigadoon, Guys and Dolls, Mame, Fame, Cinderella, Oklahoma, Oliver, Anything Goes and many more. He began piano lessons at age 8, with Barbara Lee, then studied with Roger Bushell, Khoren Ouzounian, Dr. Scott Holden, and Dr. Robin Hancock. In his teens, Michael won many competitions including the prestigious Bolognini Piano Competition and the Yamaha High School Piano Competition. In 2003, Michael moved to Utah and became the pianist for BYU’s Young Ambassadors, performing all over the United States, China, Korea, Brazil, Argentina, and Canada. He was also the pianist and band leader for BYU’s production of Smokey Joe’s Café, AIDA, Oklahoma, and the BYU New York Showcase. Michael graduated from BYU in 2008, with a degree in Media Music. Michael’s recent works include: Producer of the American Radio Cafe (americanradiocafe.com); Music and Sound Engineer for the BYU film, Onward Alone, which explores the experiences of the women of the Mormon Battalion, through dance; Co-Producer of A Brand New Year for the LDS Church; and Music Producer for the new BYU film, Berlin, a musical written by Broadway producer Erik Orton. Michael has performed and worked with local artists such as David Zabriskie, Tyler Castleton, Kelly Eisenhour, Alex Boyé, Aaron Ashton, and SPIN.

Sarah is a passionate music teacher, recently graduated for the University of Utah with a BFA in Music education. Her primary instruments are percussion and piano, and she loves teaching both! Sarah has also been deeply involved in dance throughout her life, including dancing and teaching in her home town of Vernal Utah. She is currently fulfilling an internship with Salt Lake City Ballet where she teaches music, answers the phone, takes out the trash, and is in training to teach the Vaganova ballet technique. Sarah also composes music for beginning elementary band, and will be hosting a community dance and choreography project at Reservoir Park on July 20th.

Jimmy Miklavcic

Jimmy Miklavcic is Executive Director of Another Language. Jimmy is responsible for many of the technical aspects of Another Language's projects. This includes grant writing, lighting, audio, set design & construction, web development, video production & streaming, and networking. A mixture of computer science, visual arts, music composition, acting, and multimedia experience textures Jimmy's artistic background. In 1972, he began his visual arts studies at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey. Focusing mainly on painting, he also became involved in other artists' projects in theater, performance art, and music. In 1978 he continued his studies in the Performing Arts, including acting, technical theatre and electronic music at Cabrillo Community College, Aptos CA. Shortly after arriving in Salt Lake City, Utah, Jimmy returned to study computer science at the University of Utah. He graduated in 1987 with a BS in Computer Science. Jimmy is currently the multimedia specialist for the Center for High Performance Computing Center at the University of Utah. Jimmy has received grants and support from the Utah Arts Council, Salt Lake County Zoo, Arts & Park Program, and Salt Lake City Arts Council. He has been awarded the 1995 Salt Lake City Mayor's Artists Award for the Performing Arts along with his wife, Beth Miklavcic. Mr. Miklavcic has appeared in television and cinema that now includes an appearance on the USA Network series, Cover Me on the episode titled Killing Me Softly. He has starred in a Brigham Young University Short Film as Tugboat in Tugboat's Requiem. Jimmy and Beth are now creating telematic and collaborative internet performances called InterPlays.

Cathy Neff

Cathy Neff is a composer of many different genres from classi- cal to jazz, pop to religious, country to musical theatre, and loves to work with learners of all ages. Schools K-12, rural, adults, teachers, seniors, and institutionalized. Here are some of her fortes: Musical adaptations of literature, be it Shakespeare, Greek Drama, classics like Rudyard Kipling, or children’s classics like E.B. White and Roald Dahl. Let her compose a score for your classroom or theatre production. Examples available upon re- quest. Artist in residence – where she makes music a hands on adven- ture of discovery. K-6 she does hands on improvisation and cre- ativity sessions where students learn to be free to create, and also to be good appreciators of others’ efforts. Musical comedy improv – let Cathy train your improv troupe, theatre class, or pianists in the art of musical comedy improve Meet the Composer – what is it like to be a composer? What tools do they use? How do they get ideas? Let your group learn from a living composer, which is a rare and unique opportunity. Let her make a song out of your name! Adam Overacker

Composer; Musician

Adam Overacker is a consummate bassist, performing and teaching a wide variety of music from Broadway, country, rock, pop, bluegrass, classical, and jazz. Starting in 2018 Adam began touring North America with the Broadway musical The Book Of Mormon. I teach group and private lessons, both in person and online. In addition to performing, I own, manage, and arrange for several groups including String Love, Take 3 jazz trio, Unbranded country band, and the Utah String Quartet. I am equally comfortable on upright bass and bass guitar, read standard notation, chord changes, charts, and Nashville notation, have been a musical director, a musical librarian, play piano, toured extensively in a variety of groups, am happy to travel to perform, and record in the studio or remotely from my own recording setup.

Clive Romney

Red Rock Rondo

Ghosts in Grafton. stolen quilts in Rockville and moonlight sonatas in Springdale. Take a trek into the colorful world of Zion Canyon with Red Rock Rondo. an all-star ensemble celebrating the history and contemporary life of the canyon’s neighboring communities. Red Rock Rondo’s Emmy Award-winning Zion Canyon Song Cycle is performed on a lively assortment of guitars. violins. oboe. English horn. mandolin. banjo. mandocello. harmonica. button accordion. upright bass and vocals. The musicians are composer Phillip Bimstein. internationally-known recording artist Kate MacLeod. Deseret String Band and Cowboy Poetry Gathering founder Hal Cannon. and Bimstein’s fellow blue haiku members Harold Carr. Flavia Cerviño-Wood and Charlotte Bell. who also perform with the Salt Lake Symphony. Their music is a well-crafted synergy of folk and classical traditions. Composer and former Springdale mayor Phillip Bimstein composed Zion Canyon Song Cycle on a grant from the nationwide Continental Harmony commissioning program of the American Composers Forum. His alternative classical works have been performed at Carnegie Hall. the Kennedy Center. Lincoln Center. Abravanel Hall. London’s Royal Opera House. and his new wave band’s videos appeared on MTV. Red Rock Rondo’s Zion Canyon Song Cycle CD reached #10 (with the #7 song) on the international Folk Radio lists. The Red Rock Rondo music special produced by the Western Folklife Center is broadcast locally on KUED; it won "Best Entertainment Program" from the National Education Telecommunications Association and two Emmy Awards for "Best Musical Composition" and "Best Entertainment Program." (Sample clip below) A SECRET GIFT Red Rock Rondo will premiere its new song cycle. A Secret Gift. in 2011. Based on the national best-selling book by Ted Gup. these songs are based on letters written during the Great Depression in response to an extraordinary act of generosity. Red Rock Rondo will release their A Secret Gift CD in a concert with the Salt Lake Symphony at Libby Gardner Hall December 17. 2011.

Alex Rowe

Composer; Musician

Alex is an in-demand freelance bassist, finding passion within all styles of music and celebrating the more diverse elements when they are offered. Throughout his career he has backed a broad spectrum of some of the world’s greatest talents. He is a Utah native, graduating from The University of Utah with his Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance and his Master’s degree in Arts of Teaching. He has been the private bass instructor for Westminster College for more than 10 years now and teaches privately as well. Alex has received many accolades over the years, as a musician, in many competitive settings. He performs, arranges and composes regularly in studio and live settings.

David S. Sharp

Travel back in time for an evening as Glastonbury Duo plays music from the Celtic countries, Tudor England and Renaissance Europe. Carol and Dave Sharp play many kinds of music, including haunting Harp and Flute, Songs of long ago, and rousing dance tunes. Glastonbury duo includes period costumes, hand carved instruments, and storytelling, with elements of culture, history and language. (Stories written by us include: David of the White Rock, The Glashan’s Flute, The Jackdaw’s Ring, King Halvar’s Cat, Tom the Tailor, Donald and the Changeling Child, The Spear of Victory, Donald and the Water Kelpie, and the Fairy Tinker.) Instruments include a hand carved Celtic Harp, Bowed Psaltry, Irish Flute, Whistles, Recorders, Flute d’Accord, Alto Cornamuse, Rebec, Zils, Bodhran, Tambourine, and Eppinette. Vocals are sung in Gaelic, Cymrig, Scottish lowland dialect, Latin and old English. You can even see a Unicorn percussion toy used in Medieval and Renaissance plays and music. For willing participants, we might pass out percussion instruments and teach a simple dance or two from the villages and courts of Europe. Glastonbury duo is comprised of Dave and Carol Sharp, founding member of the Celtic and Traditional group Idlewild, which has toured and played in many festivals throughout the western region of the United States. They have sixteen albums released through Idlewild Recordings L. L. C. and have performed at many of the Renaissance festivals throughout the western United States as well.

Currently the vice president of the BYU Drum Circle Club Band leader of the BYU International Latin band called, Salsa De Cacao Xylophone soloist with Wasatch Winds Has toured both nationally and Internationally in Utah, Idaho, Nevada, California, Oregon, Washington, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Japan, and Korea.
