K Dawn is an Abstract and Mixed Media Artist who originally hails from the Flint Hills of Kansas where the majority of her days were spent creating through writing short stories. Utah has been her home since 2003.

She graduated from Brigham Young University with a Bachelor of Arts in Art History and Curatorial Studies in 2007. In 2009 she graduated from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh with a Diploma in Residential Planning.

K Dawn’s first shared piece was “You’re Not One of Us”, a mixed media piece detailing some of her struggles as a Black presenting woman in her religion(Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). The piece was featured in the Fall 2019 issue of Exponent II magazine. That year she was also awarded the LDS Women of Color Scholarship through Exponent II. Most recently her work has been featured in the Spring 2021 issue of Exponent II magazine.

Citing Jenny Saville, Frida Kahlo, and Vincent Van Gogh as artistic and life influences K Dawn’s art has been centered around topics that have not been openly discussed: infertility, racism, and family history for people of color. Though her work has varied over the years she has found her comfort zone in colorful  yet symbolic abstract art.
