Always knowing she wanted to be an artist, Kristen studied drawing and painting and earned her BFA at Utah State University in 2015. She has since moved throughout Utah, gathering inspiration for her art along the way. Cache Valley is now home to Kristen and her family of four, and provides endless scenery for her contemporary landscape paintings. Her work is available online and often at art markets and fairs throughout the state.
In these Utah-inspired paintings, I try to capture the landscape in organic shapes unencumbered with tight detail. Exposed underpainting and sketch marks emphasize those shapes, while subtle texture and tones tie them together. Throughout my process, I enjoy focusing on negative space, and creating illusions that depict a believable atmosphere when viewed from afar, but up close become a story of paint and process.
