I have enjoyed the richness of the arts in Utah being native born to parents who were artists and art educators living in Utah. Experiencing the richness that the arts has played in my life has also made me aware of the value they play in our society. As an advocate for the arts I have volunteered and worked to increase public awareness of the arts all my life and especially promote the role they play in enhancing the education of our youth. I have a BFA in art teaching from the University of Utah with an emphasis in sculpture and ceramics. I have worked as an artist in resident for over 20 years in the public school system as well as local community art centers under grants for the arts. I own my own studio. I have two public works on display. A Hand built tile mosaic mural at Quail Hollow Elementary in Sandy, which was funded by the Salt Lake Olympic Committee, and three metal sculpture totems with ceramic mosaic work located at the developing Garden Spot of the Neighborhood House in Salt Lake City. Both of these projects were created with elementary age children from these communities. I have enjoyed working with the Intermountain Suzuki String Institute, doing summer art enrichment classes for the past 12 years and will be sharing the joy of art with them again this year. I look forward to future opportunities to promote creative expression through the arts as an artist and art educator. Please contact me by email at ruth@carriersales.com
