Susan Church is a Utah native who received her Bachelors Degree in Art from Weber State University in 1983. While studying at Weber State, she was privileged to study with professor Susan Makov and attended extensive classes/workshops in photography. These classes helped formulate her favorite medium: Black & White photographs which she hand-colors using pastel pencils, chalks, and photo-oil paints. She also does color photography. Noted artists Paul Strand, Edward Weston, Edward Hopper and Georgia O’Keefe have also influenced her style. She prefers outdoor subjects and has photographed various settings from Maine to Key West. Her most recent location work was in Mexico, Arizona, and Catalina Island. Her work has been shown in Utah at: The Avenues Library, SLC Eccles Art Center(Carriage House), Ogden Kimball Art Center (Gift House) Park City Barnes Bank, Kaysville….First National Bank, Layton Loge Theatre, UofU Café Central, SLC Park Café, SLC A Woman’s Place Bookstore, SLC & Park City Trappers Inn, Huntsville The Starving Artist, Ogden…Artists and Heirlooms, Ogden…Artstop, Ogden Visage Salon, SLC Anderson/Foothill Library, SLC “FIXING A LEAK,” was featured in the January ’91 issue of Camera and Darkroom, magazine. “HOMBRE” received the Jurors Choice Award at the annual Kimball Art Center Photography Contest/’95. “WEEDS GROW ANYWHERE”, was part of the Utah Photography exhibit at the Salt Lake Art Center/’92 “BLUE DOOR,” placed second in the R ... view more »
