Call for Artists – Request for Qualifications
Information Session: Thursday, October 8, 12:00 p.m.
Deadline: Tuesday October 27, 5:00 p.m.

The Salt Lake City Public Art Program is pleased to provide an opportunity for artists and artist-led teams to submit qualifications for the re-envisioned 9th South Roundabout Public Art Opportunity.

The re-envisioned Call for Artists strives to commission artwork in the new roundabout near 9th and 9th that responds to the dynamism and sense of transformation in the area.
Originally released in December 2019, this call has been re-imagined to be experimental and provide options for how artists might respond to this call. The first option is for an artist to create a permanent sculptural artwork that includes surfaces for murals. While the sculptural element as a whole is meant as a visual centerpiece for the 9th and 9th area, the new element of adding paintable surfaces as a component of the work will provide an ongoing opportunity for a rotating mural program well into the future. The second option is for an artist to respond with a permanent sculptural artwork that achieves the artwork goals included in the RFQ.

This particular Call for Artists is exclusively commissioning permanent sculptural elements for the roundabout. If murals are included in the final design, they will be commissioned in a separate process. Three finalists will be selected by the Salt Lake Art Design Board to propose artwork for the site and one finalist will be selected for the final installation. All interested applicants are invited to attend a virtual Information Session on Thursday, October 8, from 12pm – 1pm.
