CALL FOR ARTWORK Submission deadline is Saturday, September 7, 2019 by 8:00 pm MST. Applications and finalized designs must be submitted to: arts@livedaybreak.com. ABOUT THE ARTS COUNCIL Daybreak is a unique community that embraces the values of community, family, healthy living, and a commitment to the arts and diversity. LiveDAYBREAK Community Council is a creation of the developer and has made a long-term commitment to public art in the Daybreak community. The Daybreak Arts Council is an initiative of the LiveDAYBREAK Community Council tasked with implementing its goals in installing public art pieces throughout the Daybreak community. The Daybreak Arts Council is a resident-led council. PROJECT DETAILS The Daybreak community prides itself on being a walkable, bikeable community. The intention of this project is to merge public art with functionality pertaining to the storage of bikes that are ridden to public locations throughout Daybreak. The Daybreak Arts Council will install multiple unique, permanent outdoor art pieces that will function as bike racks, each with the ability to secure or organize multiple bikes, for use by residents and visitors who recreate in the various public and open spaces throughout the community. This project will feature a variety of art pieces that have the ability to function as bike racks. Multiple submissions will be selected for this project. Artists may use pre-fabricated bike racks or may create pieces of their own. Artists may manipulate the pieces into artwork however they best see fit. Selected bike racks will have the ability to secure multiple bikes and/or organize them. Designs for the bike racks should be whimsical, playful, and artistic. The locations in which the bike racks will be installed are areas utilized by families within the Daybreak community and the pieces will need to engage a wide range of the residential demographic. These locations include the SoDa Row area of Daybreak and various parks, pools, and open spaces throughout the community. Selected pieces will be installed no later than Thursday, October 31, 2019. Installation, though not transportation to installation sites, will be covered by LiveDAYBREAK. Artists should indicate how each piece that is submitted may be installed (i.e. bolted, welded, etc.). For additional information that will be required with each submission, see page 3. PROJECT GOALS  To permanently install multiple whimsical and playful art pieces that function as bike racks, each with the ability to secure or organize multiple bikes, throughout various public areas of Daybreak 2  To complete installation of this project no later than October 31, 2019  To inspire and encourage community members to explore and engage with their environment  To help bolster support in the community for a comprehensive public art display program BUDGET The overall budget for this project is $20,000, to be split over the selected pieces. Artists should submit an itemized project budget for each piece that is submitted that outlines information pertaining to artist fees, labor, materials, transportation costs, and other costs associated with the project. Installation of the pieces (though not transportation to the installation sites) will be covered by LiveDAYBREAK. For each selected piece, payment to artists will follow the following payment schedule:  40% paid at contract signing  40% paid at installation  20% paid at 8-week maintenance check ELIGIBILITY Artists or artist-led teams currently residing in the United States are eligible to apply for this project. EXPECTATION OF WORK A complete application must be submitted for each design (see page 3 for full details). Artists may submit conceptual work for the purposes of this application, but upon notification of selection (see project schedule on page 3), artists should be able to fabricate the artwork in a timely manner so that installation deadlines may be met. Artists must submit a maintenance plan outlining any regular or intermittent maintenance that may be required for each piece that is submitted. Each piece should be designed and fabricated to allow multiple bikes to be secured to, or organized by, each bike rack. The project must be designed and fabricated to withstand the Utah climate. Artists should also consider aspects of public safety and structural integrity in the design, material usage, fabrication, and maintenance of the artwork. Preparation and cleaning of each installation site will be completed by LiveDAYBREAK prior to art installation. Artists are responsible for safely transporting the artwork to the installation locations within Daybreak and must remain on-site during the installation of their pieces.
