Directs, plans, oversees, and evaluates all programs and services for Division. This includes short and long range strategic planning, talent management, fiscal accountability, quality management, and process improvement. Develops, recommends and implements strategic organizational policies and procedures. Manages, directs, and coordinates activities through managers and supervisors. Performs/participates in high level policy development and implementation.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, plus six (6) years of related progressively more responsible experience, four (4) years of which must have been in a leadership or managerial capacity; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Education may not be substituted for the required supervisory experience.
Preference may be given to a Master’s degree in Business, Administration, Museum Studies, one of the Physical Sciences or other closely related field.
- Provides leadership in short- and long-range planning to accomplish operational planning and development goals and objectives.
- Develops, recommends and implements policies and procedures necessary to the effective management and operation of the Division.
- Advises management of industry trends and legislative changes affecting programs.
- Defines metrics and outcome measurements that will quantify performance against goals and establishes a system for obtaining and reporting those measurements.
- Evaluates the need and efficiencies of all Division programs and services. Enhances and streamlines existing processes to increase effectiveness.
- Directs the preparation, justification, and administration of the Division’s budget. Ensures that adequate fiscal controls are in place.
- Manages, directs, and coordinates activities through managers and supervisors, which includes hiring, firing, promoting, orienting, training, assigning and reviewing work performance, annual work performance appraisal and discipline.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Represents the County and the Division to community groups and the general public.
- Actively participates and contributes to the Department of Community Services Team and works with the Director and Associate Director to ensure the administration of County governance at the division.
- Organize and lead the planetarium’s annual efforts to secure appropriations from the Utah State Legislature for funding planetarium programs delivered to Utah schools.
- Identify and supervise the preparation and submission of grant proposals and requests for donations to public and private granting entities and oversee the administration of gifts and grants received in compliance with the donor and granting entity’s guidelines.
- Develops and implements strategies to meet revenue projections, generate new revenue sources, and reduce costs of services while maintaining high quality.
- Develops fair, equitable, and competitive rates and service charge structures for commerical and community customers.
- Direct and approve the overall science education products and programs for the division.
- Participates and manages the Clark Planetarium Advisory Board and works with the Board Chair and Vice-Chair to manage agendas, meetings, objectives, and functions of the Board.
