?With 6,000 flight hours in more than 50 different aircraft, 375 aircraft carrier landings, 39 combat missions and more than 50 days in space, Captain Mark Kelly is one of our country’s most experienced pilots. Captain Kelly was selected as an astronaut in 1996 and flew his first of four missions in 2001 aboard Space Shuttle Endeavour, the same space shuttle that he commanded on its final flight in May 2011. He has also commanded Space Shuttle Discovery and is one of only two individuals who have visited the International Space Station on four different occasions.

Today, Mark Kelly continues to secure his place in history as he partners with his twin brother and fellow astronaut, Scott Kelly, in an unprecedented NASA study on how space affects the human body. Scott, currently serving a year-long mission on the International Space Station, and Mark are participating in a detailed study of long-duration space flight. NASA’s Twin Study will examine many effects of space travel to identify physical challenges that must be overcome before astronauts venture to Mars and beyond. 

Hear from both brothers – Mark on stage and Scott from the International Space Station as they discuss their experience in space, the Twin Study, the U.S. space program, and a future mission to Mars. Scott Kelly spoke live to NHMU on December 3, 2015, answering questions from Glendale Middle School students.
