“Life Begins on Opening Day” is the annual Babcock Performing Readers’ tribute to Spring Training and the National Pastime.
Many of our greatest writers, poets and thinkers have turned to the game of baseball for inspiration. From Henry Wadsworth Longfellow to Walt Whitman to Ernest Hemingway and Philip Roth, writers have used the game to express something fundamental about America and to examine what sports metaphors and images have to tell us about ourselves.
