Beyond Words; Mixed Media Journaling
3 Series Workshop • Ages 16 and older
Wednesdays • July 14, 21, 28 • 6:30 – 8:30pm • $120
Through this 3- part series workshop, you will be guided by instructor, Nicole Lavely, using a variety of mixed media to create a visual journal. The stories inside you that are yearning to be told will be expressed visually through a variety of mediums.
Visual journaling can be described as, a creative way to express and record life’s’ experiences, feelings, emotions, or our inner world. Nicole will expand your creative vocabulary through collage, printmaking, drawing and painting techniques. We will begin by hand binding a sketchbook that will become the space you create in for the duration of this workshop series. No experience is necessary.
About Nicole Lavely,
“Visual journaling is a practice that I have used over the years that slowly became a big part of my own artistic process, the baseline for how I create. In my work, I am often inspired by my adventures out in nature and traveling around to different places. A big influence on my work is my South Korean heritage on my mother’s side. I often look to the techniques that can be found in historical and current work coming from Korea. Throughout history, artists respond to the conditions of their lives and the state of the world. By creating we can make our own mark and have it to share, look back on and pass down.”
Nicole is a teaching artist who received her Art Teaching degree at the University of Utah where she was formally taught to be an artist and educator. She has been a visual arts teacher at Taylorsville High School for about 5 years and is currently back working for Bad Dog Arts this summer.
