DIXIE STATE UNIVERSITY ART DEPARTMENT SHOWCASE

The Art Department of Dixie State University celebrates this annual exhibit to showcase our students and their recent work, as well as the recent work of the faculty. The art students experience the benefits of learning to present themselves and their artwork in a professional manner and to improve their portfolios. This show is always a favorite and the Artist Reception is always fun. Admission to the Sears Art Museum is always FREE. There will be an artist reception to kick off the opening of the show on the 22nd from 6 to 8 pm. The Showcase runs through May 6th. The Sears Art Museum welcomes everyone and encourages patrons to visit often and bring friends and family. The 2022-2023 exhibit schedule will be announced this summer and is easily found at www.searsart.com. The Museum is open Monday-Friday 9:00am – 5:00pm. Closed for holidays. Alex Chamberlain, Associate Professor and Art Department Chair said, “As the Art Department at DSU grows in both students and faculty, the showcase gives us an opportunity to display the increasing depth of talent, skill, and diversity that defines us. This year’s showcase should have more faculty work and higher quality student work than ever before, and we’re excited to share it with the community.” Additionally, the Eccles Grand Foyer will feature two Art Department Faculty Members.  McKenzi Dye, is a visiting Instructor of Photography and Meaghan Gates, is an Assistant Professor of Art with a specialty in ceramics. Dye said of her photography work, “I create intimate photographs from my personal life, interweaving people and place to tell a narrative about loss and love and our connectedness in the human experience.” The ceramic sculptures by Gates are biomorphically based and created using multiple techniques. Gates explained, “Drawing inspiration from the natural world, my work captures moments of both beauty and the grotesque through precarious moments of flux.”
