Following in the Footprints of Chinese Railroad Workers

A grand opening reception will be held on Monday April 29th from 5 pm – 7 pm for a photographic exhibition celebrating the contributions of the Central Pacific Railroad to the completion of the first Transcontinental Railroad.

This year marks the 150th Anniversary of the final joining of the last rails of the Railroad at Promontory Summit, Utah Territory on May 10, 1869. The early completion of Railroad could not have been made possible without the efforts of thousands of workers from Guangdong, China who traveled more than 6,000 miles across the Pacific to complete the work.

UDAM Teaching Artist; Visual Artist | Trish Clay has worked for forty years teaching and counseling at all levels from elementary to college, including Job Corps and prison programs. She has been awarded many awards for her teaching, including two Fulbright scholarships to Japan and the Beverly Sorenson Award for Secondary Art Teacher of the Year. She has taught in China and Vietnam and traveled throughout the world, gathering ideas for her teaching. She loves to teach and interact with students of all ages, and continues to work with Girl Scouts, private individuals and the prison half way house for women.
