Kestrel Project Orientation

Are you interested in being a citizen scientist on HWI’s Kestrel Research Team this spring? We will be hosting an information session and orientation on Saturday. March 12 to kick off the Kestrel breeding season. This will be our fourth season monitoring nestboxes, and the project continues to grow each year. In a nut shell, volunteers spend 2-4 hours every week to 10 days monitoring nestboxes for use, checking the status of known nests, and recording data. It’s a blast watching these colorful falcons do their thing as they raise young from eggs, to downy nestlings, to raucous fledglings. Most volunteers will get the unique opportunity to assist our science staff in banding Kestrel chicks while learning firsthand about Kestrels and the threats they face.
