Levitating Rainbows: Science, Adam Johnston, Weber State University
Science, like lots of human activity and inquiry, starts with observing. Interestingly, there are lots of different ways to see the world, make sense of what we’re noticing, and ask questions both big and small. In this workshop, we’ll take a simple looking phenomenon that can be used in multiple contexts and grade-levels and then use it to find new ways to notice, wonder, and create meaning.
Art of Iridescence: Visual Art, Alisa Petersen, Southern Utah University
We will begin by exploring images of both natural and human-made iridescent objects including insect wings, soap bubbles, bird feathers, fashion, furniture, lighting and art. Next we will experiment with simple materials to create iridescent papers which we will use in tiny works of art. Finally we will discuss how artists often experiment with materials to find unique and beautiful ways to represent their ideas.
